Seven days on a lonely island
Third-year university student Makoto Ishihara and his fellow seminar mates went to a remote island in the South China Sea for a training camp. A peaceful schedule is interrupted by nightmares about the girl's death, and April 6 gradually becomes a crossroads between anxiety and tragedy; The training camp, which was supposed to end, seems trapped in a time loop that cannot reach the seventh day. The story juxtaposes daily interactions, repeated time periods, and the investigation of strange phenomena, focusing on how to avoid tragedy by relying on lingering memories.
Members of the camp
Makoto and class president Yuka Kawashima realize that time is repeating; His classmate Haruka Higuchi is introverted and independent; Izumi Morino serves as the acting manager of a café on the island, and his younger sister Kurumi is also on the island. Saki Asakura is Yuka's middle school friend, whom they reunited while vacationing at a nearby villa; Ikuhiko Iida was a seminar student in the same seminar. The old friends, personalities, and differing reactions to the anomaly form the network of relationships that gradually emerges along each route.
Choices and suspense advance
The game adopts a text-based adventure format progressing through choices, where players take on the role of Makoto, interacting with characters over a repetitive six-day course and facing different directions. The story juxtaposes romance adventure with sci-fi suspense: the plot unfolds involving multiple characters' ideas, with recurring strange events and looming tragedies driving the investigation; Retaining memories of previous experiences is key to changing future progress.
Version and Series Positioning
KID released the original game in 2000, which later became the first installment in the Infinity series; MAGES. will release a remake version for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam on March 6, 2025. It shares the series' sci-fi suspense theme with the later Ever17, with independent characters, stories, and settings.
Contact with training members
Yuka Kawashima serves as the leader of the training group at Makoto's group, and Iida Oshihiko is also part of the same group. Yuuka and Makoto had the same nightmare on their first day, while Haruka Higuchi was an honor student who skipped grades and entered her third year at university; Saki is Yuka's old friend from middle school, and they reunited while vacationing at a nearby villa.
The Morino sisters and a seaside café
Izumi Morino managed Luna Beach on behalf of others, and her younger sister Kurumi came to help during spring break. The Moonhouse Hotel, about a five-minute walk nearby, has taken away customers, becoming a real source of pressure in the sisters' daily lives. Kurumi calls Makoto 'big brother,' a friendly form of address.
The two main thematic duties of old soundtracks
Abao Gang treated "Once more" as the theme for important scenes in the game and "Beginning of Infinity" as the overall theme of the work. The sound system lists the two pieces as the main theme and the opening theme, and arranges their emphasis during creation according to the needs of the performance.
PSP vocal and digital soundtrack
The 2009 PSP version used Asriel's 'Night Sky Falling with Billions of Stardust' as the opening theme and 'Blooming Flower' as the ending theme. "Infinity+Integral perfect Vocals" lists two songs along with "TREASURE DREAM," performed under the name Yuka Kawashima, as the top three tracks. The 2020 FPBD-0577 includes 24 old soundtracks, re-recorded from their original sources and mastered.
The past and response of the PS2 Yuka arc
Yuka's past involves a hotel fire during a school trip: the boy she rescued died after confessing his feelings. At the end of her own route, she explained this experience to Cheng and her current relationship.
First work planning: Maintain a route design that intertwines characters
The original project hoped that after entering the route of one female lead, other characters would continue to participate in the story. Nakazawa advocates free strategy, with a fixed order of play; Both sides use route difficulty and the order of the characters in the opening credits to guide the reading direction.
From Infinity to Never7, a rebrake
In the supplementary interview, Nakazawa recalled that the original Infinity was recovered due to defects, and the team subsequently decided to remake it. Ta Yue proposed the title for "Never 7," meaning the seventh day would not come and that the seven characters could not survive together.
Dreamcast version player additional scenario
After the release of the Dreamcast version of Never7, KID collected player scripts and rearranged the selected performances into downloadable additional scripts without adding voice acts. Shibata recalled that to realize these submissions, a scriptwriter spent about a month continuously producing them.
