Producer of multiple scientific ADV series.
Creating the signature
"Robot Note," "Steins;Gate 0," and "ELITE" list him as producer, while "Anonymous Code" lists him as chief supervisor.
From coloring part-time jobs to multi-position development
In a 2009 interview, Tatsuya Matsubara recalled that he used the PC-8801 in middle school, then attended a vocational school, and entered the industry by working part-time as a game colorist. At Tonkin House, his experience spanned directing, art, 3D modeling, and programming, providing multi-role experience for later production coordination.
Joined 5PB in 2006.
Songyuan will join 5pb. The year and month are clearly recorded as July 2006. On his first day at the company, Chiyomaru Shikura handed him a thick proposal, which later became the starting point for developing the original 'Chaos Head' work; The 2022 interview with Naotaka Hayashi once again reviewed this briefing.
Producer and director serve as both sidekicks
In 2009, Matsubara explained that Division 5 had no independent director at the time; besides producing duties, he also handled directing, budget promotion, personnel selection, and scheduling coordination. In his 2022 review, he also mentioned that in the early days of the company, he produced his own logo and videos, and later served as chief coordinator to support full-time staff like Lin Zhixiao.
Comic triggers broaden the range of action performances
Tatsuya Matsubara brought 'ANONYMOUS;' CODE's manga trigger is seen as a means to expand the range of expression. Continuous comic scenes can show actions that character illustrations cannot handle, incorporating the action process into narration, so scene portrayals no longer rely mainly on character postures and dialogue switching.
E-mote communicates with script requirements
In the early stages of development, Matsubara decided to use E-mote, expanding the amount of materials from about five basic poses to two or three times over. He explained to Naotaka Hayashi that he could continue to request visual materials, so that the screenwriter wouldn't be too constrained by existing footage for subsequent action scenes, and that image production and script rewriting would continue to work together.
Stay in the old office to complete the original work
When the company relocated, Matsubara and STEINS; The GATE development team stayed in the old conference room, using cardboard boxes as tables to continue polishing the content before completion.
Shibuya map and Mapping Trigger
Revising the ROBOTICS Magazine; After the Tanegashima map in 'NOTES ELITE', Matsubara hoped to create a more detailed map, and then used Illustrator to draw 'CHAOS'; CHILD's Shibuya map and designed the Mapping Trigger specification. He tried to make the names of buildings related to the case as close to reality as possible, and the names of marginal residences unrelated to the story were made up by him.
Rhythm charts drive repeated revisions
《CHAOS; During the development of 'CHILD,' the team used PLOTALIZE to draw a rhythm chart for weak and slow plot progression, then held consecutive meetings to push the author to rewrite it. Matsumoto also explained that this gives the previously experience-based rhythm a helping touch to the schema.
Material adjustments after trial feedback
After the 2014 demo was released, the Songyuan team incorporated player feedback and added character illustrations and emotes to the product version. The adjustments were not limited to the first chapter; he reviewed the team and re-examined the entire content.
Tips and archive adjustments for "Anonymous Code."
During the development of "Anonymous Code," there was no post-failure prompt, and players found it difficult to identify disagreements or failures. The team later adjusted to the original release format. The early draft also considered allowing players to propose both saving and reading timing, simplifying data management due to its complexity. The player and Walk Theory save files were originally planned to be partitioned, but were mixed to enhance meta-narrative experience; Once the existing area is filled by players, the system will continue to add more areas for WalkTheory's storage.
Online production communication for "Anonymous Code."
Matsubara recalled that she, Naotaka Hayashi, and the art director had always worked separately and communicated in the office via a chat system, so after "Anonymous Code" shifted to online production, the working style did not change significantly. Before the pandemic, the team held intensive regular meetings with Chiyomaru Shikura; After actual production begins, the data is sent to Shikura for confirmation.
The division of chapters in "Anonymous Code."
Matsubara explained that Naotaka Hayashi from "Anonymous Code" was responsible for the beginning, ending, and reviewing the entire story, while Ayano Suehiro mainly wrote the mid-section tasks. When the player triggers the trigger, Putin will give various responses, and these texts are also handled by Suehiro.
The art style and app interface of "Anonymous Code."
To preserve the character designer's art style, Matsubara chose E-mote for the dynamic character performances in "Anonymous Code," rather than using 3D. Character animations were developed by the tool developer in version 4.0, with new versions adding expressions and clothing movement. BMI apps set logos and interface styles for fictional manufacturers, allowing different companies to have their own design preferences on the screen.
The opening where "Anonymous Code" was removed
Matsubara recalled that the early draft of "Anonymous Code" had set the start as having entered the second round, with Momo retaining memories and approaching Horon, which also granted him the ability to save and read files. This approach made the setting complex and difficult to integrate into the story, so it was removed during development.
The in-house script team interviewed in 2022
In an interview published in September 2022, Matsubara explained that MAGES. had already formed a dedicated six-person scriptwriting team under Naotaka Hayashi. This organization allows each project to complete scripts in-house, eliminating the need to outsource texts.
ROBOTICS; Original NOTES materials and image production
Songyuan reviewed, "ROBOTICS; The 'NOTES' project began on Tanegashima: Chiyomaru Shikura took more than ten development members to the area, handed out proposals and explanations at the hotel, and began reporting the next day. Naotaka Hayashi remembers that this explanation will take place on September 13, 2010.
The robot's appearance was discussed through multiple rounds. The team ultimately aimed for a reasonable, approachable but not flashy appearance as their common direction, coordinating the fictional robot Gunvaller with the actual Gantsuku built by the students, so that one modification would reflect the other.
When deciding on the art style for 3D characters, Matsubara didn't stop at the usual toon shade but wanted the model to retain the event-like CG-like texture. He uses uneven brown contour textures to express hand-drawn lines and continuously adjusts with the modeling company until the master is completed.
The golden double braid made lighting and highlight handling difficult for Frau to handle, so the team first made her visible before starting modeling the other figures.
According to Matsubara's recollections, to adapt to close-ups and "Gulf." Each character model uses nearly 30,000 polygons. The device view also had to load another set of character data, so the team had to work hard to handle the speed when displaying simultaneously.
Character movements also need to connect with dialogue. The team selects the movements and then uses programs to smoothly connect different movements; Characters no longer always face the audience but communicate with each other or speak with their backs to the frame.
He handed progress management to a separate director, mainly using the film and interface images to unify the original visual atmosphere.
