From novel studies to game screenwriting
In a 2009 interview, Naotaka Hayashi recounted that he had dropped out of university to become a novelist and went to Tokyo to study a specialized novel writing course for two years, where he submitted newspapers and paid tuition through the journalism scholarship student system. In his early career, he started by supplementing scene text for PC games. At first, he didn't sign his name, and only after about three years could he make a living by freelending his writing.
The first draft and rewrite of "Chaos Head."
Lin recalled that the original 'Chaos Head' first developed the plot framework from beginning to end, and the first version of the script was completed in March 2007. That summer, after confirming a collaboration with Nitroplus, the team decided to abandon the first draft due to stylistic issues, with Lin rewriting it. These dates belong to the development process of the 2008 PC original.
The difference between writing and supervision
In a 2022 interview, Hayashi explained that the writing mainly focused on organizing the settings provided by Chiyomaru Shikura, connecting independent scenes into stories; During supervision, he conveyed his understanding of the original project's intent to other writers. He also recalled that he joined the company about half a month before Tatsuya Matsubara, a relatively sequential record.
Subsequent revisions driven by changes in reality
In 2016, Naotaka Hayashi wrote 'ANONYMOUS;' The script for 'CODE' has continued to be revised multiple times since. Changes in reality—such as the rise and fall of cryptocurrency, the pandemic, and the destruction of the Arecibo telescope—along with Chiyomaru Shikikura's setting, continue to influence this near-future world.
Write retrievalable reality into fiction
Lin appeared in 'ANONYMOUS;' CODE》uses real locations, stores, and searchable terms and internet slang. Players can trace information from the work to real-life objects, connecting the story world to the information environment used in daily life and enhancing the realistic feel of the near-future setting.
Japanese script in response to vocal GATE
Naotaka Hayashi recalled that during the production of the vocal GATE for "0," Chiyomaru Shikura's Japanese lyrics for the original song were sent by the team via email. He thought the text was suitable for the end of the work and immediately responded with approval.
Organize robot notes with group portraits
Lin wrote "Robot Notes" as a group portrait of multiple people acting simultaneously, connecting the character lines with vertical branching. Misaki joins the project with the theme of chasing dreams, becoming Akiho's distant yet distant sister role model.
Communication with supervising the Lianli of Biyi Lianli
In "Wings of Love," Taki asks characters for sentence by sentence how to speak, while Yasumoto first confirms the overall direction before submitting a story development review.
CHAOS; CHILD full draft review
《CHAOS; After multiple authors completed the text, Masashi Takimoto first unified the characters' endings and subtle personalities, adjusted the paragraphs of other authors according to Eiji Umehara's style, and then submitted them to Naotaka Hayashi for review.
Arranging and examining delusional segments
After the main storyline was completed, Lin looked for a place to insert his fantasy that wouldn't interrupt the progress, first writing the concept and submitting it to the producer and director for review, then incorporating the segments into the script. He adjusts the content according to the context and number of chapters, arranging the fantasies to shift from light to more intense changes.
The Chinese route joined after taking over
After the overall outline was finalized, Xiangyue Hua joined "CHAOS;" CHILD》。 When Lin took over, he received a brief character setting and the information that must be included; The original visual concept was difficult to integrate with the existing outline, so he reconsidered the development of this route.
Planning and overseeing the entire draft of "Double Imagination."
Lin Zhixiao has been involved in character development since the planning stage of "Double Thoughts," continuously proposing Ningning's ideas. He took charge of the line of Sha Hui and Ning Ning, while also supervising the overall text; If the protagonist's tone or way of thinking is deviated by external authors, they adjust it to keep the characters' performances consistent across different routes.
Chapters of "Anonymous Code" collaborate online
According to Tatsuya Matsubara's recollection, Naotaka Hayashi wrote the beginning and end of "Anonymous Code," reviewing the entire work simultaneously; Ayano Suehiro mainly handles mid-level missions and responds to player actions after triggering the Horon Theory. Songyuan, Lin, and the art director originally worked separately and communicated in the office through a chat system, so after switching to online production, their communication methods did not change significantly.
Formation of the internal team in 2022
In an interview published in September 2022, Matsubara explained that under Naotaka Hayashi, MAGES. established a dedicated six-person scriptwriting team, allowing the scripts to be completed in-house without needing to outsource.
From now on, writing requirements and the scope of freedom
Lin recalled that while writing the 2004 PS2 "Memories Off ~Then~," he was asked to consciously reference the plot structure of "2nd." He included family and parents in the ensemble portrait, rather than focusing solely on the protagonist and female leads; The specific constraint is that the story begins with the breakup with the female lead, with most of the other developments left to him to decide.
ROBOTICS; Investigation and narrative connection in the original NOTES
It is the original version of ROBOTICS; During the investigation into robotics technology, Naotaka Hayashi and others interviewed researchers at Tokyo Institute of Technology and also interviewed toy robot companies. The team incorporated the actual powerless parts of the giant robot into the fantasy elements needed for the project.
Unlike previous ideas conceived by multiple people, this time he mainly worked with Shikura to develop detailed original plots and specific settings, attempting to naturally expand the island's dream-chasing story to the world.
Lin lets the previous game's elements not intervene in key developments, making it understandable for first-time players to the series. He also arranged connections for Tao with bicycles, fighting games, and older works from "Tsuipo," using character portrayals to connect the changes in Akihabara 2010 to Tanegashima in 2019.
