People trapped in Shinjuku
Next to the bustling Kabukicho lies Shinjuku Kowloon, where the poor and those who have lost their homes gather. Tiger Life deals with unconventional deaths here and is often attacked. He attained immortality by entrusting his life to others and could hear ghosts; But this state only works in Shinjuku; once you leave, you die.
Ghost partner
Rin Rokudou lived with Torao for nearly ten years, and only Kosheng could see and hear her. She can also converse with other souls, speaking coldly and directly, acting as a partner in funeral work. Husheng searches for the female ghost who once saved him, and also searches for the life entrusted to him.
Old friends and the power of the town
Tenyoshi Ichinose works in the Public Security Foreign Affairs Department, entrusting case investigations and body handling to Torao. Hu Youyan is the leader of the Chinese gang Wuhao. The three have known each other since childhood. Even though they work separately in the police, gang, and funeral industry, they remain friends and work together. Monasteries, churches, and local forces also intervene in the city's deaths.
Production
Written by Satoshi Kataoka, character design by Kouhaku, development cooperation by Nekoday/Guluo, produced by Plus81, published by G-MODE. The work advances investigation and conflicts between different positions through dialogue between words and characters.
Planning format and additional drawings
"Shinjuku Funeral" was originally planned to be in a manga format. Kataoka found making a game difficult, but after Soma brought in his old friend Tatsuo Kuroda, he decided to turn the project into a game. Sumeragi Kohaku first received a request to design a manga character. The draft plan started with about 20 event CGs proposed by Soma; Kataoka believed at least 10 more were needed, with additional requests later exceeding 15; Sumire's mother's illustration was also drawn by Sumeragi at the request of the new team, and the drawings of both Section Chief Yuki and her mother were prepared.
Adjustments to characters and additional short stories
Kataoka in "Shinjuku Funeral" deduces the number, gender, and personality of the characters from the ending; Soma recalls that the debate over whether Rinon should be set as a spirit body lasted about half a year. Tianyi changed from a police officer to a public security role, and she changed from a female lead candidate to an assistant; His worries stemmed from Kataoka's proposal to join the Chinese gang leader. After thorough discussion between Soma and Kataoka, Mashiro canceled the idea of leaving midway, leaving the story until the end and adding more humor. Yuki arranged Magaki's request to add more screen time to an additional short story to avoid making the main story feel redundant.
Recorded lines and cue performances
The casting of "Shinjuku Burial" was handled by Yuki himself, with most preferred voice actors accepting invitations; Kataoka requested that people be selected who could perform well in voice performance. According to Yuki's recollection, Yui Ishikawa studied Rinne's script and asked questions about the character on site; According to Souma's review, Tomokazu Seki was recorded over several days due to the large volume of Torasho's lines. Yuki imagined the message prompt sound as a stamina bar, showing vitality and weakness according to the message level. Neko Neko Soft then created a prompt screen effect that didn't exist before. Soma also mentioned that G-MODE had approved an extension once.
