A collection of short stories featuring independent characters

The first volume belongs to the first eight chapters of 'CLANNAD On the Hill Guarding the Light'. Producer Prototype explained that the entire short story series was originally written for the magazine by four original scriptwriters from CLANNAD, with each story featuring a different character as the protagonist to further depict their experiences. The first volume includes stories related to Nagisa Furukawa, Kimiko Ibuki, An Fujibayashi, Ryo Fujibayashi, Tomoyo Sakagami, Mei Haruhara, Botan, and Akio Furukawa.

The first volume contains eight stories

The first volume includes Nagisa's troubles with making friends after returning to school after illness, Childe observing his sister Fuko preparing for further education, An questioning about friendships between men and women, Ryo being mistaken during a volleyball event, and Tomoyo talking about the past. The other three stories respectively depict Mei supporting her brother, Peony meeting An, and Akio meeting Sanae. Each chapter supplements different life aspects of the characters, but not all of them take place before this chapter.

A visual and audio novel format

The PSP version combines previously released radio drama CD sounds and music with Goto P illustrations and text to form a "visual sound novel." The developer page clearly states that there are no options for the story, and after selecting a chapter, there is no need to perform continuous operations; Each part is divided into chapters, supporting chapter selection and jumping. Therefore, its gameplay focuses on watching, listening, and reading, which differs from the visual novel structure of "CLANNAD," which has optional branches.

PSP Volume 1 and Digital Collection

The Prototype page lists PSP Volume 1 released on June 3, 2010, and Volume 2 on July 15, 2010, each using a single UMD. The 2016 Steam version of "CLANNAD Side Stories" was developed by VisualArts/Key and published by Sekai Project, featuring the complete set of side stories with added high-definition images; The Steam collection includes the stories of volumes one and another.

Magazines, radio dramas, and PSP

The original short story was serialized in Dengeki G's magazine from September 2004 to October 2005, with contributions from Jun Maeda, Kai, Yuichi Suzumoto, and Okano Ta. In 2007, four volumes of radio dramas were released, each with two CDs; In 2010, the PSP combined text, illustrations, and sound into a visual audio novel.

Nagisa, Kimiko, and Fujibayashi sisters

He bravely depicts the troubles of returning to school after Nagisa's illness and the difficulty of making friends. The Childe Diary observes Fuuko, who is about to enter high school, from the older sister's perspective. Her boyfriend Darjan An faces issues in the relationship between men and women; The Tokimeku Moment was triggered by Ryo being recognized as his sister during a volleyball match.

Tomoyo, Mei, Botan, and Qiu

Back then, I asked Tomoya Tomoyo, my lover, to share old memories. My big brother returns to the middle school life of a supportive brother supporting Mei; Various scents of the Lecture Peony and An meet, a special Night Lecture where Akio and Sanae meet.

Sounds and the order of the pieces

The eight episodes in the first volume of the PSP are not simply a merger of the first and second volumes of the radio drama. The radio drama also places the Kotomi arc in volume two, the Misae arc in volume two, and the Peony and Autumn Life arc in volume three; Entries are recorded by their respective product locations. Tomoya is voiced by Kenji Nojima in the radio drama and PSP side stories, while Yuichi Nakamura appears in the TV anime AFTER STORY.

Playback method

There are no route options; each episode plays in a fixed order. Chapter selection and L/R jumping make it easier to relisten. The September 2, 2010 patch added fast-forward and rewind, requiring separate updates for volumes (upper and lower). PSP Volume 1 was released on June 3, 2010, with original artwork by Goto P.

Reunion and misidentification in the Switch collection

"Brave and Courageous" unfolds after Nagisa transfers classes to senior year, loses old friends, and Tomoya is punished as she prepares for her entrance ceremony. In 'Tokimeku Moment,' An twists her leg to the nurse's office, and Ryo is mistaken for wearing a hat given to her by her sister.

The sister's diary and the search for peony

In 'Childe's Diary,' Childe begins writing observation diaries to understand Fuuko's actions; "Various Smells" asks Peony to observe An every day, deciding to find the owner.

The authors of the first volume have eight chapters

On the Switch collection page, assign Jun Maeda to 'Summoning Courage,' 'Kimiko's Diary,' 'Back Then Me,' and 'A Special Night'; "Male Friends," "Moments That Flutter," "Various Scents" — Signing the Leader; "My older brother" Signed by Toya Okano.
