Draft impressions with three review scales
In a 2018 interview, LAM said that most of the finished results could be seen during the draft, and subsequent drawings would preserve the initial impression. He used the navigation panel to continuously view the thumbnails, checking the overall zoomed-in effect and further enlarged details.
Select the drawing method for merging layers according to the commission
LAM recalls that in the past, editing line art and layers separately was cumbersome, but later they tried merging layers and directly drawing and correcting shapes. This painting method is accepted by some clients, but he still chooses whether to use it based on the needs of the case.
Adjust webpage color and print
At that time, he prioritized the impact of RGB images on web pages; Printing files are adjusted separately with CMYK, but the overall color saturation is not reduced first for printing.
Dotted textures and overlapping color decorations around the eyes
In the notes for the LAM painting exhibition in October 2018, Wacom recorded that LAM used pre-prepared dot texture maps to create masks, add accent colors and highlights to the hair, and layered colors around the eyes. The gradient remains light to avoid overly strong color changes.
Character design collaboration for "Altes."
According to Haruki Kashiwakura's recollection, when LAM designed the characters for 'Artes: Beyond Time,' instructions were given to keep a large space in place; The director only conveys the necessary intentions. The feedback should first focus on what LAM wants to do, then offer adjustment suggestions, rather than outright rejecting the artist's proposal.
When introducing LAM's "Artes: Beyond Time" concept, Kashikura mentioned the concept of Noa's twin tails detaching from the head and Anima's restrained design similar to a strap. The team used Chloe as the basis for other character designs, and LAM proposed various outfits for her: black, gray, and colored tights were considered, and finally, a white-based design was chosen between black and white uniforms.
Invited to illustrate 'The Witch and the Hound.'
According to Kamitsu Kinney, the two met while working on ALTDEUS: Beyond Chronos. After hearing that LAM wanted to try light novel illustrations, the author invited him to participate in "The Witch and the Hunting Dog"; LAM's red background camellia woman image helped the author create a witch-like visual impression, and LAM later took on the role of illustrating the novel's cover.
