After being killed, Sissel becomes an amnesiac ghost and must uncover her identity and cause of death before dawn. He gradually uncovers the case by possessing and manipulating objects, rewinding time to alter the scene.

An investigation began after his death
After death, Cecil awakens in ghostly form, but loses memories of her identity and death. With only a few hours left until sunrise, he must uncover the murder case. Starting with Lynne, a female detective who may witness the case, Cecil encounters a group of people who may have clues.

CAPCOM lists Lynn as a witness to Sisel's death, while the girl Kamila is protected by her dog missile. Everyone could be connected to Cecil's death. The game weaves together a single-night suspense story through these encounters.
Possession objects and puzzle-solving
Cecil can possess objects and manipulate them, and can briefly rewind time. Players observe objects and character actions in the scene, trying to change the conditions before and after the crisis, thereby solving puzzles and changing the fate of others. CAPCOM refers to these two types of abilities as Ghost and Trick.
Original work and HD version
The original work was written and directed by Qiaozhou, and it was first released on Nintendo DS. The 2023 HD Remaster is available on Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam, enhancing graphics clarity and frame rates, and adding medal challenges, ghost puzzles, music, and art collections. The Switch version offers touchscreen controls; The remake also adds Chinese Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
Investigating the amnesiac ghost
Death causes Sissel to lose his memory; he does not know who he is or who has been killed. With only one night left to act, the investigation begins with detectives who may witness the case, using the deceased's abilities to alter the dangers faced by other characters.
Objects and time
Puzzles rely on possessing objects, adjusting on-site actions, and traveling back in time. Ghost abilities limit direct action, so players must make environmental changes connect to influence the outcome of events.
HD version
The 2023 edition has enhanced visuals and sound effects, and added art and music galleries. The original and new arrangements can switch instantly in the game, with both sets of music progressing in sync with the scene. The game director was Qiaozhou, with Yasumasa Kitagawa responsible for the new arrangement.
Soundtrack and production
All 37 tracks from the 2010 soundtrack are credited by Masakazu Sugimori, including the world of the dead, character themes, event music, and a prologue. The 2023 rearranged soundtrack retains Sugimori's original credit, arranged by Yasumasa Kitagawa, and adds new songs composed by Sugimori.
The prototype forms both gameplay and story
The difficulty feedback from the prototype of the 'Ghost Scheme' Kanon room prompted the team to add conversation prompts for the deceased, forming rules for communicating with non-human souls. Qiaozhou also designed the background as a simplified graphic without text to avoid clearly defining the country and era.
