A family meeting on Rokkenjima
From October 4 to 5, 1986, members of the Ushiromiya family gathered on Rokkenjima. The family head Jin Zang's health deteriorated, and family meetings involved inheritance and family interests; The island's witch legends, the supposedly existing gold and inscription puzzles also come into view. The typhoon isolated the island from the outside world, and subsequent events turned the gathering into a crisis within a closed environment.
Zanjin is one of the younger generation returning to the family gathering. Contrasting with the disputes over interests between his parents, his questions gradually focused on whether phenomena claimed to be caused by magic or witches could be explained by human actions. This question runs throughout the work, but the beginning does not provide a direct answer sheet.
Readers and the reasoning within the story
The original official website describes this game as an audio novel that changes the flow without relying on player choices. Reader engagement mainly involves reading and thinking, rather than collecting items on the map and combining answers through gameplay like in detective adventure games.
The scenes presented in the narration, the words spoken by the characters, and the reader's interpretation of the events are three levels that need to be understood separately. Different chapters continuously offer new ways of observation, and characters debate around the premises of their reasoning. Thus, the work not only raises the question of "who did what," but also how to read the information seen.
Question Section: Scatter and Bloom
The commonly mentioned problem-setting section corresponds to Episodes 1–4, and 'The Sea Cat Cries at the Time of Dispersal' corresponds to Episodes 5–8. The original official website lists the 'Saki' collection, which also includes 'Tsubasa', 'Hane', and other additional stories, covering more than the first four stories.
The Question Arcs product on Steam only corresponds to the question section and offers a switch between classic and updated character screens. The 2016 release date for this product differs from the doujin original work's release date starting in 2007; Its language and voice specifications also do not represent all console ports.
Old grudges behind the family leadership competition (early character profiles)
Kurausu hopes to achieve his father's business success through resort investments, but his siblings suspect he will monopolize unnegotiated assets. After Natsuhi married into the family and was unable to bear children for twelve years, Eha took advantage of this situation to obtain permission for Sugi Hideyoshi to become her adopted son, and after marriage, she retained the Ushiromiya family registration. Ewa also hopes to push Jouji, who was born before Zhu Zhixiang, into the succession race.
Joji and Hideyoshi have different goals
Hideyoshi lost his family in the war and started as a food chain running a street stall, eventually leading to the company's going public; After entering the Ushiromiya family, he regarded this place as his new home. After entering university, Joji studied business management at his father's company. He respects this self-made experience and therefore has no intention of relying on inheritance to gain wealth, with different goals from his mother's family headship.
Why did Zhan return home after six years?
After Zhan Ren left home, he lived with his maternal grandparents, and with both of them passing away one after another, he had to rearrange his residence. Wujiang, who had previously communicated with him, mediated and allowed him to return home. Yamato was influenced by Kirikawa's board thinking method and tried to consider the next move from the opponent's perspective.
Genji, family crest, and employment rights
Genji began serving from the very beginning of the house, directly loyal to Kinzo; After equipping the One-Winged Hawk, only Kinzo has the right to dismiss him. Because of this, other family members regarded him as Kinzo's eyes and ears. Xiangtian was originally a restaurant chef responsible for meals for important guests and family meetings, but without the family's permission, he competed with Genji for his hospitality skills.
Young servants of the Gospel House
Kinzo sponsored the Gospel House and opened up servant positions for the children in the community learning category. Shayin has served for nearly ten years, teaching and sheltering those who come after him; After working for about three years, Kaon was cared for by her and was also recommended to Kinzo by Genji. Because Jiayin and Zhu Zhixiang are close in age, Xiafei keeps them from getting close. Kumazawa comes from a fishing family on Hachijo Island, has worked part-time for many years to take care of household chores, tells island ghost stories to children, and helps young servants deal with work mistakes.
A buffer between doctors and families
After Nanjo handed over Niijima Hospital to his son who had just returned from school, Nanjo continued to serve as Kinzo's attending physician and chess friend. He was one of the few who could enter the study, and his family would use him to inquire about Kinzo's health or convey their opinions, keeping him caught between Kinzo and his relatives.
EP4: Enju, Gakuen, and Maria's Diary (PC Chapter Spoilers)
In the future segment, Enju is adopted by Eiha after the death of a relative and is also ostracized at Saint Lucia Academy. She keeps a diary from Maria's belongings to get close to her cousin. The diary describes Roza's work and caring for his daughter, as well as the lion plush doll Sakutarou she sent; In Maria's story, the doll becomes a communicative friend.
The two authors' collections vary in scale
zts' "musicboxRed" includes 19 used tracks and 4 unused tracks from the Question Edition EP1–4, marking "Longingly," "Movie Passing By," "Red Leaf," and "Game" as unused track by track; These works were composed and arranged by ZTS. dai's original "musicbox blue" was a 65-track album with three CDs and a booklet, and in 2018 a digital compilation was released; Currently, all visible tracks are clearly composed by dai.
Rearranged theme song albums
KNIL-0003 Includes 'Umineko Naku Koro ni' Complete vocal arrangement, lyrics by Noriko Yumito and Wataru Namino, arrangement and vocals by Akiko Shikata. The game's BGM "Golden Mockery" was composed by Luck Ganli, and the album was adapted into "Beautiful Banquet," with lyrics by Tomoko Shinoda and arrangement by Yoshitaka Hirota; "Black Liliana" composed by Mauni Akiyama, arranged by Yuji Yoshino, "Melancholia." The theme song also features Instrumental Suites arranged by Yuji Yoshino.
Complete instrumental recording of the theme song
MusicBrainz's record transcribed as KNIL-0003 tracks 2 lists Koichiro Tashiro's Buzoki guitar, Hiroki Ito's electric guitar, Marie Oishi's percussion, Seiko Onuki's violin, and Kei Yasui's whistle. Track 3, 'Golden Mockery ~Reishi no Banquet~', features programming and instrumental performance by Yoshitaka Hirota. These positions belong to the category of record recording.
Original PC EP3–EP4: Enju's way of addressing his older brother
By the end of the third arc, Enju has spent twelve years in a world where Sento is absent, using the rather distant older brother. In the fourth chapter, when facing the warrior who looked twelve years ago, she uses her childhood 'O-ii-chan' again, changing the tense as they meet.
Original PC EP4: Tea Party click sound effects
The fourth section, Tea Show, will arrange sound effects at the moment the reader clicks, with BT adjusting trigger timing at every point. Dragon Knight 07 hopes that the action of advancing the text can also give readers the feeling of a battle between the Companion and the Warrior.
Original PC EP4: Hidden red text added to the tea party
BT pointed out that the performance at the Omote Tea Party might lead people to mistake Sento's small bomb story for the truth. Ryukishi07 then added the red text for Lambda Wearing Luta to the hidden tea party, to refute Warrior's reasoning; This red-letter statement was not originally planned.
