A world in decline
Humanity entered a period of decline, and "Others" with human and other biological traits became widespread. The story doesn't begin with a grand revival plan but revolves around a restaurant far from the town center: welcoming guests, preparing meals, and delivering food are at the heart of Leon and Lucia's life.
A suitcase by the roadside
On the way back from a delivery, the two discover a large suitcase by the roadside and a nearby pink girl named Aisia. After being brought back to the restaurant, she became an employee of the free meals and lodging, which changed her previously fixed life rhythm and forced the relationships within the restaurant to be readjusted.
Main characters
Lucia is good at running a restaurant and treats Leon as a family person, but is not good at expressing her feelings openly. Aisia is cheerful and considerate, cherishing stable food and lodging; Officer Karen has long cared for Leon and Lucia, while also taking on the responsibility of guarding the town.
Planning and series
According to the developers' column, the tall and short girl images originally drawn in P19 became the creative starting point for Aisia and Lucia, with Karen added after the story structure was finalized. The sequel "KARAKARA2" continues the life in a restaurant, serving as the starting point for getting to know the three companions and their relationships.
Cities, canteens, and vigilante groups
Sagami Francisco's small eatery is located beside the highway leading to the city center. There are dining tables and a kitchen downstairs, and the second floor serves as living space. Leon and Rusha jointly run the shop, and the rescue of Aisia later also works in the shop; Karen, who has long cared for Leon, belongs to the town vigilante group.
First production and theme song
The initial planning and script were by Nachi Kion, with illustrations and character design on page 19, game music by Jun Okubo, backgrounds by Taira Kato, and CG coloring by Suzukiya Store No. 16. Shun Shiihara was the director, Yukihiro Ikeshima was producer, and the film was produced by Kamizukisha, with the studio calme. The theme song 'Rakuen' was written by Nachi Okio, composed and arranged by MANIO, and performed by Luna. It was later included as the 8th track in MANYO WORKS BEST 2, released on November 29, 2017.
Preparation process
KARAKARA's planner, Nachi Kio, lowered the time and cost barriers for new players with shorter, lower-priced single-line titles, focusing mainly on download sales and overseas players, while retaining physical products. Lucia's early personality was too taciturn, making her lines repeatedly ellipses; As a result, Muo deleted and rewrote the first draft containing the prologue, increasing her communication with her companions.
In 'KARAKARA,' Aisia's huge red suitcase comes from the companions' luggage seen by Nachi Kio during her trip to America: inside the large suitcase are the same small suitcase, and this experience became a reference for props. Muo also explained that Karen is a character type rarely drawn in P19, so the key animation design takes more time than usual, and only after the image is finalized does more active action begin.
