Wu woke up again
After spending years in the war with BETA, Takeshi Shirogane wakes up to find himself back at the starting point of a parallel world three years ago. This world is now different from the Japan he is familiar with: humanity has long resisted alien invasions, the country is militarized, and the Yokohama base training school trains tactical pilots. Wu joins the United Nations forces and lives side by side with people he once knew, sharing a different identity; He carries fragmented memories of humanity's defeat, trying to find a way to change the future.
The final chapter of the trilogy
The official position is positioning this work as a direct sequel to "Muv-Luv Unlimited" and the conclusion of the trilogy. The story expands into a sci-fi war narrative centered around tactical machines, international politics, and the "Alternative IV" project, with main characters including Takeshi, Mitsurugi Meiya, Miki Tamase, and Yuko Kazuki. The Steam version was released on September 18, 2017, offering Japanese, English, and Chinese Simplified texts.

The series relationships before the story begins
"Muv-Luv Alternative" continues the EXTRA and UNLIMITED parts of "Muv-Luv." The everyday relationships and otherworldly experiences established in the previous work serve as the backdrop for the protagonist's actions in this game. If you treat Alternative as a military-themed short story unrelated to the previous work, you'll miss the information gap it actively uses.
In the official product introduction, when Shirogane Wu woke up again, he returned to October 22nd. He recognized the place before him, but faced a school that had become a military base and a city that had been destroyed. This time, he carries past memories and tries to change the development he once experienced.
BETA: War and Base Life
Humans in the world are fighting alien life forms called BETA. War constitutes the premise for social and individual actions: training, missions, and technical planning together determine what the character can choose. Shirogane Takeshi is not the embodiment of a player who freely leads a team on the map; the story mainly tells the story of conflict through his experiences.
Alternative IV is a key plot in the storyline. The official character introduction lists Yuko Kazuki as a physicist related to the project, and lists the training members and instructors around Takeshi Shirogane separately. The full purpose and outcome of the plan are part of the subsequent storyline and are not revealed in the opening introduction.
Squad 207B and people around them
Meiye Mitsurugi values swordsmanship and her own responsibilities; Chizuru Sakaki took on leadership and coordination roles within the team; Jinji Tamase is known for her shooting skills; Cai Fenghui excels at close combat; Mikoto Kai has wilderness survival experience. They were in a military training environment alongside Shirogane Wu.
Marimo Jinguu is the training instructor, Yuko Kazuki's duties are related to research projects, and Kazuka's life is connected to the research facility. Listing these different responsibilities helps distinguish between daily training and research plans, without needing to pre-state the character's secret experiences.
Forms of expression and derivative works
This is a visual novel that advances through text, visuals, and sound. The appearance of tactical machines and war scenes does not mean it is a mecha action control game. When commenting on its "gameplay," one should first distinguish between reading performances and systems that require real-time player operation.
The official product catalog also lists spin-offs like "Total Eclipse," with different settings and central characters; "The Day After" relates to another direction of UNLIMITED music. They can expand the worldview, but they don't belong to the same flow as the original Alternative article. The release date on the version product page should also be separate from the original first release.
The training relationship of Team 207
Under Yuho's arrangement, Shirogane Takeshi joins the Yokohama Base 207 Guard Training Unit, with Marimo as the instructor and Chizuru as the squad leader. Chizuru values discipline and team integrity, while Hui emphasizes adaptability, and the two often clash; Renji has sniping skills, Mikoto excels at survival techniques, and Meiya is skilled in swordsmanship, but due to connections with the Shogun's family, she is protected by Tsukiyomi and the 19th Independent Guard Squad.
Research programs and special mission soldiers
Yuko Kazuki is both the deputy commander of the Yokohama base and the highest leader of Alternative IV; Shexia often stays on the 19th underground level, accompanied by a cylinder containing brains. A-01 is commanded by Captain Michiru Isumi, with Mizuki serving as the assault vanguard, Haruka responsible for domain control, and other members handling assaults, interception, and fire support. Haruka and Akane are sisters, while Haruka and Mizuki are friends and competitors from the same cohort; Akane was appointed six months before her friend Chizuru.
The Uses and Generations of Tactical Aircraft
The Shock is the Imperial version of the F-4 Phantom, a continuously modified first-generation aircraft. Shiranui is a third-generation aircraft developed from the F-15J and Fubuki technology, with deployment starting in 1994; Fubuki undertakes advanced training and can also equip weapons to join the fight. The Siwei Army's exclusive Wuyu Lei is led by the Chengnei Province, with the purple special unit prepared for Ming Ye.
Original PC cast list range
The above character introduction is taken from the 2006 official website; Actor credits are listed based on the 2006 PC staff list preserved by ERCR, with original names such as Takeshi Aiba (Takeshi Aiba), Aki Okuda, and Ayaka Minami preserved. The dubbing scope is separately recorded in subsequent all-age ports, remakes, and TV animations.
Youyang, Mingye, and the Guardian's Entrust (Spoiler for this chapter)
Yuuyou and Meiya are twin sisters, but they must publicly deny this relationship. Meiya even once acted as a stand-in for Youyou. After Ming Ye's guards were removed, Yue Yong bowed to Wu and asked him to take care of Ming Ye.
Decisions made during the Sakura operation (main spoiler)
Chizuru, Saifeng, and Meiya faced the choice of who would deploy S-11. In the final situation, Ming Ye protects Wu and Junxia, confesses her feelings to Wu, and asks him to join her in striking the enemy; The letters left after battles also vary depending on the character chosen.
Unit 00 and the memories preserved by Kasumi (spoiler for this chapter)
After Unit 00 regained Junka's personality, she rejected Takeshi, but the two rebuilt their relationship through conversation. Kasumi learned about the flower rope and memories from Takeshi, later joined the battle, and after the battle, regarded the memories she read from Junka as precious and projected her feelings to Takeshi.
A two-volume original from 2006
The original soundtrack is divided into "VOL.1" (LACA-5508, 28 tracks) released on March 24, 2006, and "VOL.2" (LACA-5524, 27 tracks) released on June 7, 2006. The two volumes collectively contain 51 instrumental tracks and 4 vocal tracks; "Roar to the Future," "Wings," and "Carry on" are labeled by track size as GAME size, while "Mavrav" retains its original catalog title.
Clear division of labor between vocal and musical scores
Volume 1, "Roar Toward the Future," is performed under the signature name of JAM Project, with the track list listed simultaneously: Hironobu Kageyama, Masaaki Endo, Hiroshi Kitadani, Yoshiki Fukuyama; Lyrics and music by Kageyama, arrangement by Kenichi Sudo. The short version of "Tsubasa" was also sung and composed by Kageyama, with arrangement by Sudo. The instrumental composition section of Volume One lists Hikaru Nanase, Ryoki Minami, Taku Iwasaki, Sei Anse, Angel Note, and others, as well as 'Squad Forward!' 》《End of Regret》 simultaneously featuring Yoshikazu Kawatani, Peak A Soul+, and Masu Ueda. The label page of Volume 2 clearly states that "Carry On" will be performed by Masaaki Endo, and "Mav-Llav" will be performed by Minami Kuribayashi; The community music database separately lists the former with lyrics by Kageyama and music by Yogo Kono, and the latter by Ikuko Ebata, music by Seiji Koizumi, and arrangement by Masaaki Iizuka.
The four songs in the second volume are arranged and composed
Taku Iwasaki's official production list lists tracks 2, 4, 16, and 22 of the 2006 original soundtrack VOL.2 as his compositions and arrangements. They are "Wind Crossing the Battlefield," "Beyond the Corpse," "Absolute Resistance," and "Absolute Crisis."
Volume Two: Piece by piece composition
The twenty-five instrumental tracks in the second volume each have their own composer credits. Signed as Ninja with Ninja Ninja for 'Storm Vanguard' and 'Original Hive'; signed as '00 Unit', 'Hollow Light', and 'Target of the Arc' as Yoshiki Minami; "Sound of Rain" and "Warmth" signed Angel Note, "Valkyries" and "Ready for War" signed by Sei Anse. Nine pieces signed by Hikaru Nanase, including 'Assault Landing' and 'The Majesty of the Hive'; The playlists for "Roaring Soul" and "Interception" are also listed by Yoshikazu Kawatani, Peak A Soul+, and Masu Ueda. The composition and arrangement of "Carry on" GAME size were all by Yogo Kono.
The Loss of the Instructor and the Return of the Warrior (Main Game)
In the main game, Marimo encourages the defeated Takeshi after the battle, but is attacked and killed by a BETA during their conversation. After Takeshi escapes back to the EXTRA world, he witnesses Marimo's death there; Xihu from another world explains the dangers brought by karma, and Wu later returns to the world of war.
Retreat during Operation Jia 21 (Main Game)
During Operation A-21, Takeshi feints to cover the Qi Nai Huang Type II as they approach the nest. During the retreat after Emperor Sui stopped his plane, Kashiwagi returned to Iyu but was ambushed and killed. Iyu stayed behind to try to restart, but the recovery was ultimately unsuccessful. She carried out a manual demolition and died alongside Sado Island.
A song before the attack
Before launching the Sakura Operation in the main game, use 'Carry On'.
Yokohama Offensive Aimed at the Reactor (Main Game)
Unable to return to their nest on Sado Island, the BETA launched a major assault on the Yokohama base. The defense side found they were pointing directly at the reactor, and even though it was unclear whether it could be restarted, they decided to attempt to shut down the reactor.
Haruka's Furnace Shutdown Mission and Water Moon's Explosion (Main Game)
Yuko originally planned to personally go to the furnace shutdown location, but in the end, Haruka crossed the base to carry out the mission. Yao was killed by BETA, failing to shut down; Shuiyue then switched to using the S-11 to destroy the reactor.
The deployed S-11 start timer was destroyed by BETA. To destroy the reactor as quickly as possible, Suigetsu strapped the S-11 to his own mobile suit and detonated it together with the reactor and BETA.
Injuries from other defensive positions (main game)
Akane, Munakata Misae, and Kazama Noriko fought BETA at other locations of the base and were also wounded in the defense battle.
The Objective Reason of the Sakura Battle (Main Game)
After the defense of Yokohama, Yuko judged that the reactor at the original nest would transmit information to other nests in a tree-like structure. To destroy this target before further information was transmitted, Operation Sakura was launched.
The original PC version script was revised and new directors added
On November 30, 2016, Koki Yoshimune recalled that the prologue of the original PC 'Muv-Luv Alternative' was added about three weeks before completion, and he explained it to the development department while holding the script. The production team also created a large number of dedicated backgrounds and placed them in front of the tactical machine to complete the opening performance.
According to Koki Yoshimune's review on November 30, 2016, before the release of the original PC 'Muv-Luv Alternative,' editors from various magazines were asked to play it in full, and then playthrough reports were published as evidence that the work was completed.
Koki Yoshimune recalled the original PC "Muv-Luv Alternative" production, explaining that the script was nearly revised ten times, with repeated readings to check for consistency among characters across the arcs; Story judgment is also unified by one person's standards.
