Visuals and adaptations inspired by 'Ping Drum.'

When arranging ARB's "ROCK OVER JAPAN" for the 2011 TV series "Whiru Ping Drum," Yukari Hashimoto extended the interlude to accommodate dialogue as the video length was set, and added sound-like sounds as the characters gradually fell off.

Episode 21's "Soul Kogashite" originally had a bright atmosphere close to the original song. After submitting the demo, the director felt it was not suitable for a serious story, so Hashimoto switched to a minor key, added electronic sounds, and resubmitted the arrangement.

When making the 2022 film "RE:cycle of the PENGUINDRUM," she initially thought she would only need to edit the old soundtrack, but later got the chance to re-record. She recalled that about eighty percent of the score had been re-edited.

The length of the film footage and the placement of the score were first determined by the director, who then used music to connect passages, rewrite, and add parts of the second half of the piece. The theater's surround sound allowed her to use the low frequencies and side-rear sounds that the TV version once abandoned.

The film version of 'Tamahomare / Himehomare' adds strings and backing vocals to enhance the intensity. She uses this scene as a subject to build a broader and more serious arrangement.

Character and mood track arrangement

During the production of the 2024 TV anime "Senpai wa Otoko no Ko," Hashimoto selected instruments based on the character's tone and temperament: piano for Makoto, guitar for Ryuji, and woodwind for Saki. She values the atmosphere needed for delicate dialogue, and her mood pieces mainly use acoustic instruments such as piano and woodwinds, with control over the number of notes.

How to write the soundtrack for episode 3

Hashimoto recalls that in episode 3, the music used when Saki finds Makoto's shoes and starts running, layered with short phrases, creates a melody that matches the work's theme. Later, a running scene set against the sea background was specially composed to match Saki's melancholy mood and sense of running speed.

Early musical interests

He had hoped to pursue a career in music since Hashimoto Middle School, but didn't know what specific professions he had at the time. In high school, she often listened to Western music on FM and frequently visited record rental shops. At that time, she had no ambition to become a musician or composer.

The sequence of music production for the complete revision

He wrote the Complete Revision. Hashimoto first discusses the scene music list prepared by the director, then uses a computer to create sample pieces, reflecting the director's feedback to complete the music, and finally moves on to studio recording for instruments such as piano, guitar, and strings.

Ancient instruments and themed chorus

To fit the world of the film 'The Tale of Destruction,' Hashimoto invited Kuno, who specializes in playing traditional instruments, to participate. She also reflected that the main theme of incorporating female choruses came from the director's idea, and the director wanted the performance not to be too childish.

The sound texture of two worlds

Following the director's suggestion, Hashimoto distinguished between the fantasy film in the film and Natsuko's real-world sound texture. She portrays the world of old films with nostalgic melodies and live instruments, adding sparkling sounds to the repeatedly used Natsuko performance shots to connect with the real world.

The next day, listen back and redo it

Speaking about his usual music work, Hashimoto said he would also listen back every other day during the composition process, and if he found the direction was off, he would proactively ask himself to redo it.
