The game experience became the original concept for the manga
Misato Mitsumi provided the initial ideas and short stories for 16bit Sensation, and her experiences in the gaming industry with Kanro Tree also became material, with the two jointly handling the initial character design. The comic's story combines the experiences of different crew members.
Training newcomers through screen sharing
During remote work in 2020, Misato Mitsumi shared the screen from an online meeting with newcomers to explain the company's coloring methods. She said that everyone can have their own preferred painting techniques, but teamwork requires common basic standards; The course is designed to help newcomers understand these requirements.
Line art on paper and adjustments after scanning
Mitsumi recalled that when creating the first "Utawarerumono," she still drew line art on paper, then scanned it into the computer for coloring; After scanning, the head size is also adjusted. Even after coloring on a digital tablet, the line art remains on paper for a long time. During the 'Komicku Party' period, she switched to using the G-pen for outlines, employing deeper lines to make post-scanning cleaning easier.
Assign digital tasks based on the tactile feel of the drawing
Mitsumi tried digital screens multiple times, but found it difficult to draw the expected lines because the surface was smooth and hard. In an interview published in December 2020, she said she still uses a tablet and draws with an iPad that feels closer to paper; At that time, about half of the homework was done by the iPad and the computer.
Costume feedback from the "16bit Sensation" animation
Wakaki recalls that Misato Mitsumi and Kanroki provided design and costume advice for the anime "16bit Sensation ANOTHER LAYER," while the story was mostly left behind; Mitsumi also considered casual clothes. When the script team encounters illustrators' work experiences, they ask both of them and then write their experiences into the scene.
Mio Hanezaki's choice of appearance
When designing Mio Hanezaki for the PS3 game "ToHeart2 DX PLUS," Misato Mitsumi first considered that she was a classmate who had previously been overlooked, so she avoided using flashy and eye-catching looks from the start. She also repeatedly considered which features to retain after removing the glasses to make them recognize the same person; Black hair and three-strand braid are key points of the hairstyle, with the braid tied at the back when wearing glasses.
