Reality and Town

Real life carries a rustic atmosphere, while Town offers a different kind of daily life through a well-developed virtual environment. Not all people Takumi knows appear on both sides at the same time: some live with him in real life, while others only meet him in Town. The characters' understanding of the world and how much life experience they can share form the important thread of the story.

It all started with travelers coming to visit

Yoko, riding Hans-kun, travels around with her companion Sadakichi and arrives near Takumi's residence, but ends up damaging a warehouse and getting injured. She stayed temporarily there, recovering from her injuries while communicating with Takumi. Yoko is curious and proactive, habitually mapping the places she encounters during her travels. Her visits bring a broader world into Takumi's life.

Old friends and teachers

Aya is Takumi and Akira's childhood friend in town. She is lively and straightforward, but never tells Takumi where she lives in real life. Akira and Takumi live in the same real-life town and are friends he can confide in. Kei teaches children in town, imparting knowledge from past schools; In real life, she is also an acquaintance who teaches Takumi painting.

Beside the fountain and under the sky

When Rio first arrived in Town, he received help from Takumi, and since then he has been waiting by the fountain to meet him again. Ena often gazes alone at the virtual city's sky, having many questions about the world before her. Takumi's conversation with her is also a process of their gradual understanding of the world and each other. Breuer and Rapunzel are a pair of mysterious figures who appear to be watching something in town.

Character design and performance

Character design was handled by LITTLE. The five main female characters are voiced by Yukiko Iwai, Kumiko Yokote, Kyoko Iijima, Akane Omae, and Yuka Inoguchi, corresponding to Yoko, Aya, Kei, Riou, and Ena. Their backgrounds, spheres of activity, and attitudes toward the outside world differ, intertwining the two life lines of the real and virtual cities.

Theme song and soundtrack

The opening theme "FLOWER" was written, composed, and performed by Urara Takai. "Erde ~Under the Nezu no Ki~ Sound Collection" was released on January 22, 2003, featuring the game's original background music and complete versions of the opening and ending songs, with a separately illustrated cover.

PS2 and Dreamcast versions

The PS2 version was released on December 19, 2002; The Dreamcast version was subsequently released on August 7, 2003. The DC version uses a single GD-ROM and saves 21 Visual Memory blocks, supporting VGA and vibration devices. KID explains that its DC reading system follows the foundation of DC's My Merry Maybe.
