A reunion after five years

The introduction to the official Nippon Ichi store states that Naoya returns to his alma mater five years later and reunites with an old classmate named Ayano, who suffers from memory impairment due to the impact of a fall. She could only maintain her current memory for about fifteen minutes before beginning to tell a story modeled after her high school life. Through this narrative, Naoya traces events from five years ago, and the conflict between the fictional story and the known past also becomes a clue.

Gaps in the story

The school story told by Ayano does not include Naoya, who should be present, and the story does not fully match the real past. The official product description describes it as text containing fiction and carrying the narrator's intent. The game allows players to discern which details are believable between two layers of narrative.

Card records and branches

Naoya recorded the information he got from the story as cards so he could communicate with Ayano, whose memories could only be briefly retained next time. The cards players choose to show her help her continue telling but also cause the story to diverge. Therefore, the cards serve as both memory aids and narrative selection interfaces, with a progression method different from simply reading chapters in order.

PSP titles and genre positioning

The official Nippon Ichi store labels this game as a PSP game, with genre keywords including youth, self-exploration, mystery, cognition, and adventure, and is intended for ages 12 and up. Campus relationships, memory disorders, and fact/fiction differences in the text together form its main suspense axis.

A character with the same name in Reality and Stories

Ayano's storytelling, Ayano, Yuichi, and Yukari are modeled after real-life Ayano, Yuichi, and Yukari, respectively. Ayano is a second-year high school girl, and Sakura is her friend; Naoya reunites with 23-year-old Ayano five years later, while in reality, Yukari continues to care for her as a teacher.

In-game novels and bonus library

The 346-page First Novel Bunko contains five in-game stories: Tamaki Ichikawa's 'The Loss of the Twenty-First,' Romeo Tanaka's 'The Unending Stair,' Kasuke Karabe's 'Color of Sound,' Meron Uminekozawa's 'Summer Shadow,' and Masaki Motonaga's 'There Is a Reason for the Onion Phenomenon.' Bunko illustrations are by Yuto Noiji, O-Ji, Wakatsuki Sana, Itsuki Akata, and Kashmir.

The return of the creator

This work marks Yutaka Fukazawa's return to game development after leaving the gaming industry to work in programming and web development; The catalyst was an invitation from WizardSoft in 2009.
