Suzume Yamamoto was credited as the art designer for "Ghostville Girls Season 1."
Annotating the composition together with the screenwriter
Yamamoto and Mita used paper manuscripts or PDF red pen annotations to discuss composition face-to-face; The minimal plot flow is left to the art direction for now.
The prototype of six-tone script sound
Mita recalled that Yamamoto was the earliest prototype of written sounds: using the six sounds of 'あ・い・う・え・お・ん' to convert hiragana into the corresponding vowels, and other characters into 'ん'. This method was later retained in the Switch version.
Redrawing and coloring in character design
In a 2023 interview, Yamamoto said Sayoko's expressions were repeatedly redrawn: too many expressions would weaken her impression of lacking confidence; For trench coats, add red and blue dots to avoid being too grayish-brown. After Mita asks for Yoru to look like a mermaid, Yamamoto uses gradient hair and sailor uniforms from the snowy night to create a sense of reality between the two.
Try painting to confirm the snowfield and background lines
Yamamoto worked on both character and concept art, and after trying various brushes in Painter, he used pastel to paint deep blue skies and snowy fields. The architecture blends the atmosphere of Nordic and northern Russian styles with different house styles, avoiding a single location; The background should be drawn as much as possible by hand, with slight distortion.
The draft process for the 2019 OP animation
In the 2019 OP development log, Yamamoto first drew rough storyboards and key animation, then made dynamic drafts to judge duration, refine storyboards, and share them with the team. After rendering, he used the After Effects timeline plugin to organize the timing, handed the coloring to Ban, and simultaneously cleaned lines, adjusted duration, and split layers.
