Arrangement collaboration for 'December Blue.'
Looking back on Friends' Hirose, after hearing Kaoru Okubo's ballads arranged for other singers, he was invited to participate in the 2019 "December Blue." The two discussed that even if high-pitched strings were added, they would maintain Friends' own voice.
Bassist Ryōhei Nagashima said that at first he thought Okubo's bass lines were too dense; After actually playing and trying to add or remove bass content, he regained his understanding of the relationship between arrangement and singing.
A subtractive arrangement of One・Two・Three
While arranging "One・Two・Three," Okubo received requests from Tsunku not to need to speed up, to reduce the number of notes, and to experiment freely. He believes this requirement allows for streamlined staffing.
First collaboration with Tsunku
Looking back, Okubo's first collaboration with Tsunku was on the 2006 album 'Rainbow 7' with 'Mushoku-tousou na Mama de'. He participated through a competition and received requests for exotic style, medium tempo to lyricism, and percussion as much as possible without drums. Tsunku said that his version was chosen because the arrangement had personality.
No modification experience without allocation
Okubo also recalled a setback when setting songs for Aya Matsuura: the first draft was not approved, the second version gradually approached the requirements, the third draft proposed a recording guitar direction, but in the end, it was handed over to someone else for arrangement. He does not recall the exact period of this work.
A review of the commission from Guru Guru JUMP
When talking about "Guru Guru JUMP," he remembered that the commission was meant to bring a bit of silliness, bring the atmosphere to a climax, and avoid being childish. At that time, he saw fulfilling such requirements as a hurdle he had to overcome.
