Planning and collaboration for "Half."
According to producer Ji Ling's recollection, the worldview of "Half" came from his unfinished comics, and after "Burying Flowers," he considered changing it to a multi-faction perspective. In the early stages of development, Ji Ling was in charge of the story, with new recruits handling gameplay, combining the two; Midway, Ji Ling felt that difficulty and randomness affected the narrative experience, so the team tried to simplify the original gameplay framework.
Choice of overhead view schemes
Reflecting on the production of the "Burying Flowers" scene, Ji Ling said that the initial outsourced overhead view did not meet the expected Chinese-style story atmosphere, so the team compared three revision options. Ultimately, the dusk plan was chosen, combining smoke from cooking and the dawn-night transition to balance tranquility and mystery, with falling peach blossoms in the foreground replacing the peach blossoms covering the hills, further refined.
Let the scene form a walkable world
The team arranged clear connections between houses, forests, lakes, and ritual facilities, giving players an overall impression of the world. The scenes are also set apart for day and night, expressing atmosphere—peaceful during the day, enchanting and eerie at night.
