"We Have No Wings ~Prelude~" is a collection of short stories released by Navel before the main part of "We Have No Wings," released on June 28, 2008. It enters the same city through fragments of different characters' lives, supplementing the relationships with the past for the later ensemble story.

A short piece as a prelude
Navel positions Prelude as a collection of multiple stories, rather than an epilogue to a particular route in this story. The characters' encounters on the streets, campuses, and workplaces first introduce readers to their usual ways of interacting. These short stories supplement the life backgrounds of each person in the ensemble story.
Relationship with this article on transplantation
Later PS3 and PS Vita ports included past chapters from Prelude about Asuka Watarai, Kyo Yamashina, and Misaki Hayashida. According to the official explanation, the port also includes Misaki as a romanceable character; Misaki's new routes and the included past arcs together expand the ported content.
Differences from AfterStory
In 2011, Prelude & AfterStory combined the prelude short story with the main epilogue for release. Prelude offers earlier life fragments, while Afterstory continues the relationship after the conclusion of this story, with different time settings and reading premises.
Later combined product types
The Navel product list lists the Prelude & AfterStory set on February 25, 2011, and the AfterStory limited edition on July 30, 2010; The AfterStory included in the set is the same as the latter.
