Seventh floor and the journey
When men and women meet in the ward, they are reluctant to make the hospital or home their final place in life. They then drove away and headed west along Highway 1. The journey is made up of strangers, yet always within the limited time set by illness.
Text and performance
The original visuals mainly consist of background materials, black-and-white images, and text, with restrained use of images, and music and narration taking on a significant portrayal of the scene. The production team publicly explains the deaths of the two as a premise, focusing on how they spend this journey.
Prequel and recollection
"Narcissus 2" moves the story back about six to seven years, focusing on Setsumi and Himeko. "Narcissus 3" continues the setting of the seventh floor, expanding the work with stories from multiple authors and bundled with the previous two titles.
Subsequent versions
Steam offers free collections of the first and second generations of Narcissu for Steam. The tenth anniversary anthology also uses these two stories alongside 'Himeko Final Chapter' as the main story, supplementing other stories with DLC; The PSP version places the original journey in its first chapter.
The original physical carrier and vocal composition
The author's historical catalog records the August 2005 CD version of "Narcissu" as stage-nana Vol.24: one CD-ROM, the game is the same as the web version, and the remaining space is used for the original soundtrack. The 2010 SDCR-0031 vocal disc clearly labeled "Kokoriru vocal ver." and "Narcissu~Setsumi no Theme~" as from narcissu; The former features lyrics by Tomiichi Kai, arrangement by Hiroshi Ishibashi, and vocals by Mari Ruta; the latter by Tomo Kataoka, arrangement by ebi, and performed by R E M.
The range of songs selected for the digital compilation
In 2014, the digital soundtrack for 'Narcissu 1st & 2nd' was additionally released with 21 tracks. Agilis, a member of the distribution team, explained that the track collection is based on existing physical disc materials delivered by Stage-nana, and some game music was excluded due to the lack of high-quality audio materials.
