Items that cannot be handled
The letter states that the book cannot be burned or chopped, so Subaru and two friends attempt to burn it. The book seemed to turn to ashes, yet reappeared by my pillow the next day. At first, she explained it was a prank, but people gradually appeared at school searching for the book, and even familiar teachers became strange.
Four young girls
Subaru is used to being alone and reading, making it hard for him to fit in with the class. Niikura Mekika is sociable and often takes care of her; Fumi Hasuda understands occultism and acts with the aura of a delinquent girl. Transfer student Ruu Kuzu is also searching for books, and due to school arrangements to get close to Subaru, their relationship is put to the test.
A long-form suspense story
The sound of wishing in a dream, the stranger on the rooftop, and the origin of the book all create suspense. The release description states that the work took seven years to produce, is expected to take about twenty-five hours of reading, and uses over a thousand images. The 2017 PC original was later ported to Switch by Regista, and the port announcement of 2018 does not represent the original release year.
Students from the same class, neighboring classes, and transfer students
Subaru is quiet and passive, isolated in class. Mei Qihua, who is good at socializing, is her classmate and friend, often helping her out of trouble; Fumi, from the neighboring class, interacts with her with bad behavior and mystic knowledge. After Luu transferred to the class, the teacher assigned Subaru to take care of this girl with a British father.
Connections surrounding the mystery book
Subaru receives a mysterious book, and Ruu is also searching for the mysterious book. Taking care of the transfer students' daily arrangements, intersecting with reading, mysticism, and the pursuit of books, forms a concrete connection among the four senior girls.
