Story summary

War has destroyed the environment, and survivors are living together to survive. A teenager wakes up in an abandoned factory, sees a mechanical right hand without artificial skin, and mistakes himself for a Phiroid lacking emotional functions. He leaves the factory to search for humans, is taken in by the girl Shiona, and named Rei, begins learning what emotion means in the town.

Main characters

  • Rei: A boy who wakes up from the factory and thinks he's Phiroid, covering his mechanical right hand with a glove.
  • Shiona: A girl who lives in a church and loves to sing.
  • Tipi: A girl living in the town library.

Rei in the postwar world

The story takes place in a future where human civilization has been severely damaged by war. Humans once created Phiroids as living companions, but after society collapsed, some artificial life forms were abandoned in the ruins. The boy Rei wakes up from the ruins of the facility, sees his right hand revealing a mechanical structure, and mistakes himself for a Phiroid to search for humans in the desolate lands. Shiona took him in and named him. The latter part of the story reveals that Rei is actually human, with her right hand being a medical prosthetic after battle injuries; The townspeople are the Phiroids waiting for humanity's return.

Shiona, Tipi, and small-town life

Shiona lives in a church, loves singing, and often comforts those around her; She uses shapes and colors to describe her emotions, expressing herself in a way that's slightly different from others. In the library lives a girl named Tipi, who often cries alone. Although the townspeople know of her presence, few people come close. The people Rei meets in the town are not just background residents: each carries loss, waiting, and imagination about the future, allowing him to observe how different emotions affect human connections. The relationship formed by Rei, Shiona, and Tipi is the gateway through which he understands emotions and "people."

A Kinetic Novel driven by emotional reading

Harmonia does not focus on choosing branches or multiple routes. Players read text, character dialogue, and performances in a fixed order, following the story as if reading a novel or watching a movie. Music, character expressions, and background visuals all contribute to the narrative, with the chapters focusing on how Rei identifies emotions, how Shiona expresses feelings, and whether artificial life can possess the human heart.

Churches, libraries, and grocery stores

Rei covered his right hand, which was exposed to mechanical structures, with gloves; The latter part reveals that it is a medical prosthetic arm after war injuries. Shiona took him in at church, describing his emotions through color and shape. Tipi hides in a library that preserves paper books; the townspeople know she but are reluctant to approach; Grocery store owner Madd searches for damaged tools in abandoned factories, repairs them, and sells them.

Human boys and the town of Phiroid

Rei thought the mechanical right hand meant he was Phiroid, but in reality, he was a human who had experienced war and had medical prosthetics installed. Shiona, Tipi, and the townspeople are the real Phiroid. They wait for humans to return, and continue to imitate and maintain human daily life in a town without human habitation.

Shiona stopped offering comfort for her reasons

After the young man's funeral, Rei wanted to comfort Tipi, but Shiona repeatedly stopped him, and later even kept him at the church to meet Tipi alone. Tipi belongs to the old model who cannot understand human death, waiting for their parents to return for years; Once the sadness is removed, she stops functioning. Madd also stopped because he lost his anger. Shiona's cold actions are thus linked to the preservation of Tipi's life.

After parting, we continue moving forward

Shiona and Tipi eventually leave, leaving Rei with the emotions and memories given to him by small-town life, choosing to continue living and re-enter the desolate world.
