Snow cuts through flowers
Shichiro Kobayashi is credited as the art director in the official staff list for the PSP version of 'Snowcut Flower.'
Find the background style of each work
After leaving Toei Animation, where his drawing style did not suit his, Kobayashi joined the A Production team, which established a new structure for "Star of the Giants." Kobayashi recalls that the staff here start by discussing the world and style that the work should have, and also cultivate newcomers from the ground up; This environment aligns with Kobayashi's idea of having a different painting style for each work.
An animal perspective from 'Gamba's Adventure.'
While creating the animation art for "Gamba no Bouken," Kobayashi tried to observe the world from the perspective of small animals, making natural features like rocks appear huge, rough, and intimidating. Recalling the processing of a Noroi image, Kobayashi said he changed the eye curve to a straight line based on Yoshio Kabashima's original drawing, enhancing the horror felt from a mouse's perspective.
Concept collaboration for 'Revolutionary Girl Utena'
When reviewing the art of 'Revolutionary Girl Utena,' Kobayashi said the team repeatedly proposed ideas, and after gaining Kunihiko Ikuhara's approval, they moved forward. Kobayashi retained the door designed by Hiroshi Nagahama, adding details that appear to be damaged; After the director requested the spiral staircase, the specific shape was left to Kobayashi to design.
The texture of mold and the clear distant view
When painting a mold-covered room for the animated film 'Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer,' Kobayashi pressed the pigment onto wet stone, then absorbed and peeled it off to create the desired texture. When painting distant scenes of abandoned neighborhoods, Kobayashi does not blur distant areas but gradually reduces the number of lines and details, retaining clear parts to leave a strong impression on distant objects.
