Leaving and returning to the classic five years
At eighteen, Asuka Matsumoto temporarily left classical music to enter a vocational school to study jazz and pop music, accompanying, composing, and adapting music for other musicians. Five years later, she returned to classical music with a new understanding, performing Kapustin's works.
Arranging and recording personal albums
Her debut solo album extends from piano solos to rhythm, strings, and multi-recording, offering listeners a different musical gateway.
The second album, "Manteca," was recorded by her on multiple pianos. She also values the interaction between piano and percussion, believing that each can form an ensemble, and when working together, they will weave more rhythmic layers.
Leaving the keyboard to prepare for reading the score
In a 2009 interview excerpt, Matsumoto explained that when he hit a bottleneck in practice, he would temporarily leave the keyboard and bring sheet music to a café. She uses colored pencils to mark passage transitions, voice relationships, and chord names, then attaches special stickers to favorite notes, phrases, and harmonies.
