Isolation in Ikebukuro
At school, Tsukasa Suzuura was bullied by Kondo and Sano, and became estranged from others. After school, he returns to the apartment in Higashi-Ikebukuro, and finds it hard to trust his cohabitants—Sawa, Tetta, and Emiko. He wanted to take a bus out of Ikebukuro to Fukushima, treating escaping his current life as a way to change his situation.
Kanako and the masked monster
Tsukasa meets Kanako Futami on the school rooftop, and both use the World Toxin to explain human hostility. As Tsukasa was about to leave, the masked Suicide Fence threatened him by killing him in exchange for his own survival. Kanako suggests they jointly implement the plan, and Tsukasa gradually shifts from hesitation to seeking her help.
Alice-style intervention
Alice Kangase approaches Tsukasa in the park, considers him a friend, and also looks after homeless people on the street. Her understanding of kindness conflicts with Tsukasa's philosophy of survival; When she tries to stop the plan, Tsukasa wants to avoid interference but also worries about being implicated, which makes their relationship even more tense.
Apartment buildings
Sawa often spies on Tsukasa's actions, while Tetta and Emiko produce counterfeit goods inside the residence. Norika, who manages the room, also deals medicine with Tsukasa. The exclusion at school combined with insecurity in his place drives him to rely on Kanako's explanations and plans.
Choices in Chapter Two
Chapter Two centers on the acceptance of new concepts of survival. Kanako continues to push for collaboration, and Alice approaches him in a completely different way; After the street violence incident, Tsukasa began to see breaking free as the freedom he should fight for, and eventually asked Kanako for help.
The objectives of Chapter 3
In Chapter 3, Kanako provides an investigation into Yuu Minazuki. Minazuki acts gentle in caregiving, but the two suspect him of arsonist based on investigative footage and choose him as the target. The actual action is disrupted, the masked monster reappears, Tsukasa escapes the scene, and the original plan fails.
End of Chapter Three
Tsukasa once thought that failure would lead to revenge for Kanako, but when he returned to the school rooftop, he found she was still alive. Kanako further suggests making a young child a target, helping Tsukasa rediscover her indifference to life. The third chapter of the public reveals suspense after this twist, leaving no final criminal outcome or the true identity of the stranger.
World Toxic and Systems Theory
The work depicts the world poison as an invisible factor that influences the mind and provokes hostility, distinguishing between the conscious, the dialysis, and the addicted. Tsukasa and Kanako also proposed the theory that the world is like living beings and that cycles are maintained through repulsion; The narrative also shows how they use this explanation to understand their own experiences and actions.
Published chapters and production
Browser Edition Chapters 1 to 3 are titled 'Shouting Kodoku in the Heart of the City,' 'Welcome to the New World,' and 'Fragile,' with Chapter 1 also featuring a Hello Effect prologue.
