The last seven days
The news of the end has been announced for two months, and the story began with only seven days left until its end. The characters know time is limited, but they do not have a plan to save the world. Reading thus focuses on how they spent this time, who they met, and what words and things are still worth accomplishing.
Interwoven character perspectives
The experiences of Minoru, Sachi, Sachi's older brother, and Yuki appear in turn. Different perspectives complement each other when they meet, making life during the same period not belong to just one protagonist. The author of Vector registers this method as zapping, and notes that the work is a traditional sound novel, so changing perspectives does not mean players can choose multiple routes.
Sound and blank space
A 2009 signed play review specifically mentioned the coordination of piano music with silent segments, and regarded restrained apocalyptic depictions as a hallmark of the work. The record points out that the specific reasons for the ending were not fully explained, with the focus shifting to interpersonal communication and the lingering aftertaste at the end. Compared to grand disaster descriptions, this commentary focuses more on the subtle reactions of characters during brief interactions.
The week before the end
The work begins one week before the end of the world, focusing on the interactions between different characters and their individual lives. The author presents this time frame with plain daily depictions, without providing detailed causes of the disaster in the public introduction.
Perspective switching and a single path
This work is a Sound Novel, using zapping to switch between observing characters. The author also clearly states that it is a one-way work, so the shift in perspective should not be understood as multiple routes that can be explored.
