Searching for a place to settle
Clementine has grown from a cared child into a skilled survivor, and must protect and teach AJ. A remote school offers the possibility of a stable life, but protecting this group also requires her to take on leadership responsibility. How she acts and interprets danger will influence how AJ understands the world.
Choices and exploration
Players make decisions during dialogues and key events, bearing the consequences of protecting companions and using violence. The final season adopts a more shoulder-back perspective closer to the characters, expanding the space for free exploration and allowing some battles to move beyond prearranged movements.
Visuals and chapters
Graphic Black uses intense light and shadow and black areas to evoke a comic-like texture, continuing the series' visual origins. The final season consists of four episodes and was released in August 2018; Steam titles are developed under the name Telltale Games and published under the name Skybound Games.
Continuing from previous experiences
Standalone releases allow users to reselect previous season experiences through the in-game Story Builder and also support importing local saves from platform-eligible titles like A New Frontier and The Walking Dead Collection. The old Telltale online upload service has been discontinued; The Switch version cannot import Season 3 natively in the same way; you need to use Story Builder to rebuild the experience.
Work stoppages and team reunions
The legal handover caused the team to be suspended for two months. At that time, Skybound's five-person game department helped the original developers regroup, and then resumed the original production arrangements.
The production phase of the last two episodes
During the shutdown, the third episode's voice recording was finished, and the footage was still rough; The fourth volume already includes the first draft, initial voice acting, and basic visuals. The ending direction was agreed upon with the Skybound editors before Telltale closed, with only minor adjustments made afterward.
