2010 Angel Beats! Early Concept Production
Toba first visited P.A.WORKS' Toyama Studio, talked with Jun Maeda, learned that he was also interested in the studio, and formally proposed the 'Angel Beats!' animation project, explaining the challenges and risks to Horikawa. P.A.WORKS then took over production. Koyanagi commissioned Takehiko Matsumoto to create the image board, considering the school's location, shape, and area, and collaborated with directors Matsumoto and Kishi to source material.
In early winter 2008, arranged by Horikawa, Koyanagi joined the script reading session early as a set producer, responsible for outsourcing and managing characters, props, and art materials. There is no ready-made source material for original animation; these tasks need to be advanced before the official start of this work.
