Production related to CAFE SOURIRE

Eri Natsume was credited as the key artist for the reference book in 'CAFE SOURIRE.'

From art blogs to fan activities

Natsumeeri recalled that the entrance exam made her pause from painting for a while, but after starting work, she rekindled her interest through her illustration diary blog. She self-studies by continuously updating herself, imitating her favorite paintings, and reading painting instructions from the internet and magazines. Later, friends invited her to participate in fan creations, and the ongoing experience of creating works gradually gave her confidence in pursuing a career in painting.

Methods for observing expressions and light and shadow

Natsumeeri values subtle facial expressions that can evoke different impressions based on viewers' moods, hoping that an illustration will evoke more stories. She often observes the muscle shapes and shadows in photos, especially favoring facial shadows against the backlight. She points out that shadow colors are affected by skin tone, ambient colors, and sunlight intensity, and recommends observing how your favorite paintings match skin tones and shadow tones.

Local impressions shift to character patterns

In an official interview in 2020, Natsume Eri explained that she brought the warmth and calm atmosphere she felt during her visit to Obanazawa to the Silver Mountain Kokoroyuki; The ribbon knot is inspired by the shape of the city emblem, and the neckline details are taken from the city flower, the azalea. The portable puppet was inspired by the birth of the Kokeshi at Ginzan Onsen, but she readjusted the face and design to make it a prop for the character.

The brightness and color grading of "BLUE HALLOWEEN."

Natsume Eri used a blue theme for the serialized illustration "BLUE HALLOWEEN" for "Natsumeiiro," attempting to change the usual black-orange color scheme for Halloween. She once chose between two versions in a room: one brighter and one dark; in the end, the magazine used the light edition, while the independent prints used the dark edition.

When "BLUE HALLOWEEN" was converted to printmaking, Natsume Eri personally adjusted two rounds of data. She trims rough areas, changes floor colors, and adds textures; The second round lightens some of the heavy shadows on the skin and adjusts the areas where you want brighter ones.
