Changes after his father's death
Two months after his father's death, Shoji gradually adjusts to life with his mother Shione, but the mermaid twins Toridome Mei and Mel, whom he saw as a child, suddenly visits. Shion was originally a mermaid, and after her father's death, the magic that kept them together lost its support, dragging Shoji into a situation where he had to search for love.
Mermaid sisters and human friends
Mei is gentle and reserved, and has feelings for Shouji; His lively and playful sister Mel brought his younger sister to help him. Shoji's childhood friend Rinsa Chidori is earnest and responsible, while Tachibana and Midori do not want sympathy due to their physical weakness. The mermaid's rules enter the original school life, forcing Shoji to understand the people he wants to cherish through genuine interactions.
Characters connected by music
Shoji is skilled at singing, and musician volunteer Hibiki Terao proactively invited him to be his partner after hearing his voice at the cultural festival. Student council president Misu Tsutsumi and Hibiki are sisters separated due to their parents' divorce, each with their own worries about their intimate relationship. Her mother, Shion, traded her voice for human life, using her writing to talk about ringtones and communicating with those around her.
Editions and Distribution
The game revolves around the setting of choosing a unique partner, arranging character paths. The original PSP version was released on September 30, 2010, and the PS3 version of "Mermaid's Tears" was launched in 2011 as a later expansion.
A romance between a man and a mermaid
Shoji Takanashi's mother, Shione, once exchanged her voice for human form and married her father Shinichi. Two months after Jinichi's death, mermaid twins Mei and Mel visit again, telling Shoji that the magic that kept humans and mermaids together has disappeared and he can only fall in love one more time.
Twins with neighbors
Toridome Mel is the older sister, Mei the younger; when they were children, Shouji once saw mermaids. Rinsa Chidori is Shoji's neighbor and childhood friend, skilled at cooking and often taking care of her family; Her younger brother Ryuichi wants to be a guitarist and is dating Kazui.
Sisters and campus friends
Hibiki and Misan lived separately with their father and mother after their parents divorced, remaining sisters. Hibiki wants to invite Shouji to collaborate on music, and Misaki is the student council president a level above him. Ei Todo and Rinsa were old friends from junior high, and Chitose, Midori's close friend, liked tanka and haiku.
The actual rule of 'only once'
The game uses text choices to advance the story. The first completed heroine route determines the main heroine, granting her special treatment in subsequent additional content; Players can still continue to pursue others. A single romance is a plot theme and first-access treatment design, not a block of other routes.
PSP production and bonus announcement
Character design by Sasaki Mutsumi, script by Hiroaki Miura, opening song performed by Rekka Katakiri. The July 2010 PSP announcement plan limited edition included a 100-page guide and 20 original soundtracks including the opening song; This announcement is for the PSP, not the full specifications of the PS3 additional edition.
