Applying analog art materials techniques to digital revisions
In a December 2015 interview, Shimadori explained that digital painting still directly adds ribbon lines or overlays color corrections on the screen like handling physical art materials, rather than relying on undoing. For him, repeating these handcrafted operations gives the painting a unique texture; At that time, most of the work was done in SAI, occasionally wrapped up with Photoshop.
Art study and illustration commissioning
Shimadoriru first encountered materials such as design, sculpture, charcoal wood painting, oil painting, and watercolor during her high school art courses, with oil painting being the most suitable for her. After entering the oil painting department at an art university in Tokyo, he chose seminars focused on painting practice, experimenting with mineral pigments and gold leaf.
In my third year of university, I participated in Kodansha's 'Daisuke Nishijima's Inspiration☆Manga School' at Shimadoriru. When he was assigned a project to submit to the manga editorial department, he sent the manuscript to his respected Kinoko Nasu, through which he met editor Katsushi Ota and later accepted an illustration commission for 'Red Dragon.' In a December 2015 interview, he regarded this project as his debut work.
Submission and feedback on 'Chaos War'
Development director Shunsuke Endo recalled that Shimadori often submitted sketches one week before and finished images the next week in "Chaos War." Katsufumi Ota of Seikaisha also recorded that he once returned the main visual draft.
