Twilight Arc (Original Trilogy)
At the beginning of the original trilogy, 'Borderline at Dusk,' Kuga sees Kotaro fall down the stairs and steps on the sculpture sealing the relic while trying to save him. The two were then asked to enter the investigation sub-unit.
In 'The Boundary at Dusk,' Kuga and Yuo are caught up in the incident where their handcuff keys are lost. The heirlooms searching for keys do not have accurate shape memory, so they start scrambling for keys everywhere.
In 'Twilight Border,' Kuga follows the investigation branch to the grasslands opened by the Janus Key to search for Nemuko. After receiving the key, he was unable to return due to insufficient magical power at the time, and was eventually returned by the white-cloaked figure with another key along with Nemuko.
In the latter part of 'Twilight Borderline,' after Yuo is attacked, Kuga and Kotaro investigate the series of fainting and memory loss incidents, and discover that Shizuharu is the attacker. Jingchun led the students into the summoning array to test whether they could provide the magic needed to sustain the summoning.
