Rewritten Heart of the Woods before the demo
Josh Kaplan recalled in a September 2018 interview that even after more than a year of development for Heart of the Woods, the team was still rewriting large parts of the story about a month before the demo was released. Earlier drafts, while retaining the same group of characters, included time travel instead of forests and fairies. When rewriting, he first selected elements such as snowy scenery, fairy-tale atmosphere, and the beginning of romance when direct conversation was impossible, then built the story framework around these elements.
