They started dating
She gradually grew closer to Wakka through online contact and outings, and started dating after Yuri rejected him. Waka's memories reflect the two of them's different expectations for companionship and connection.
Finally, let's meet again
Wakka was unable to respond to her intimate requests, returned the ring, and ended the relationship, citing that the person he liked in the past had broken up. Rie pressed for the reason for leaving, but he still didn't directly say that he had long lost love.
The final email
After parting, she apologized for what she said during the argument and told him she understood he wanted to leave. The email made Wakka aware of the harm caused by hiding her true feelings for external reasons.
