A school with only five girls

A young man who has lost his life purpose transfers to a school surrounded by high walls, with only five female students inside. He carries the burden of the past, not knowing what he can still protect; After meeting five classmates with distinct personalities, the daily life of a closed school gradually reveals their situations and secrets. The official shop uses the "orchard" as a metaphor for the academy, and the story begins around a transfer student forming relationships with five students.

The first installment and release in the series

Produced by Frontwing, this game is the first entry in the Grisaia series. The Steam international version was published by Frontwing USA and launched on May 29, 2015, offering an English interface and Japanese voice acting. The sequels, The Labyrinth of Grisaia and The Eden of Grisaia, are separate products.

Mihama Academy

Yuji Kazami transfers to Mihama Academy, becoming the sixth student in a school that originally had only five students. The school's small size makes it almost impossible for people to avoid each other: classrooms, dormitories, and daily activities all become opportunities to get to know others. Yuji hopes to live an ordinary life, but he is not a transfer student without a past.

The opening school life features lighthearted dialogue, while the gap between the characters' experiences and common sense constantly appears. The plot gradually shifts from superficial interactions to personal situations, with each person's path facing different central issues.

Five students

Yumiko Sakaki remains wary of newcomers and tends to act alone; Amane Suo is good at taking care of others and is also skilled at cooking; Mitsuru Matsushima interacts with people in an active way, deliberately expressing certain character personalities. Initially shy when entering the nest, Shicai shows closeness toward Xiongji after getting familiar; Koreishi values rules and responsibilities.

These personality introductions are from the ported version's public character page, and only the opening relationships are explained. Why each person forms this lifestyle is part of the later plot development; secrets from the route cannot replace the public identity revealed at first encounter.

The protagonist has connections with outside the school

In the official character introduction, Yuji is portrayed as a taciturn boy whose behavior differs from that of ordinary students. He has connections with a character known as JB outside of school, which means his school life is not completely isolated from the past.

The character introduction page also covers voice acting and production information from both the original and the ports. Different versions may use different attribution methods; the encyclopedia should verify by specific product, rather than directly filling the animation cast list into all game versions.

Series and adaptations

After "Grey Fruit," there were "Grey Labyrinth" and "Grey Paradise," which expanded on character experiences and main storylines. Including these titles in the series collection doesn't mean the three names are just different translations of the same game.

Frontwing is the game developer, and PROTOTYPE's page introduces its console port products. The animation production team was also responsible for the animated version; 8bit's information confirms the existence of adaptations and the beginning of their stories, but this does not imply that the game contains the same episode arrangement.

Five students and one transfer

When Yuji arrived at Mihama Academy, there were five girls: Yumiko, Amane, Michiru, Makinai, and Kou. Amane is the only third-year student, and Yuki is the lowest class president; Yumiko often stays alone due to strong caution, while Michiru uses her practiced tsundere image to liven up the atmosphere.

Adults at school and at work

Although Chizuru Tachibana looks young, she is actually the daughter of a permanent board member, school principal, and county governor. JB's former name is Julia Bardera, and she is Yuji's current foster parent and work supervisor, serving as a protection management officer. Makinai expresses affection toward Yuji's 'big brother' address.

Vita version branch reading with theme song

The Vita version was released on August 8, 2013, advancing dialogue from Yuji's perspective, choosing to change the subsequent story, and supporting 200 save and rewind restarts. Nanakamai Drawings SD Incident Screen; The theme song "Fractal of the End" is performed by Hiran with lyrics by Yuichi Kuwashima and arranged by Hitoshi Fujima.

Yumiko's family conflicts with the company

In the original Yumiko storyline, Yumiko's mother Misako's illness and amnesia are key reasons why Yumiko rejects her father. Her father, Michiaki, manages the Higashihama Electric Railway Group and serves as chairman of Mihama Academy, asking her to return to the Sakaki family. Yumiko and her school partners fought for shareholder support, JB helped connect with key shareholders, and ultimately caused Doaki to lose his position as president at the shareholders' meeting.

Shicai and her sister's inheritance crisis

Kiyoka is the mother of Makina and Sarana, and also the president of Iris Global, sharing real power with Hatsune in the family. In the original Shicai storyline, the half-sister Sari is seriously injured in the explosion of a family conflict, putting Shicai at risk of retaliation. Yuji failed to negotiate with Kiyonatsu, and the two fled Mihama. In the true ending, the company account information Shicai holds becomes a bargaining chip for safety.

Titles and gray situations

In a pre-release interview in 2011, a Frontwing representative explained that Grisaia was derived from the name of the monochrome painting technique grisaille, using the "gray fruit" to express the heroine's situation and state of mind. The project considered names such as "Grayscale," "World's End," and "Thanatos of Genesis."

Story-first planning and postponement

Representatives focus projects on story depth and worldview, thus featuring protagonists with distinctive experiences and ways of acting. The originally scheduled release date of January 27, 2011, was postponed to February 25, explained by the expansion of the work, which exceeded expectations due to the final adjustment time.

Entrance to the Yumiko route (original PC)

In the original PC version, when the other four heroines did not enter the route, she switched to Yumiko's route.

Escape before sending her back to her father's arrangement (original PC Yumiko route · spoilers)

Before Yumiko was sent back to her father, Yuji borrowed a car to chase after her and stopped the plane from taking off. The two then fled, and the setback in household affairs led Yumiko to call her father.
