Arrangement and production of "PSYVARIAR THE MIX."
In the adaptation of "PSYVARIAR THE MIX," Umemoto combined FM, PSG, waveform memory sound sources, YM2608 rhythm sound, ADPCM, sampling loops, and VST effects, experimenting with crossovers between different sound sources.
He was accustomed to starting with the introduction, and after hearing 'Opening,' he would choose it to merge with 'Factory'; The latter phrase was chosen to try to gradually shift PSG's tone to FM.
This adaptation uses all software: Mebon loads instruments such as VOPM, Synth1, and Chip32 in SynthEdit, drives them with MML, records each track separately, and then adds effects to ACID.
From company music work to freelance creation
Ryu Umemoto recalls that after graduating high school, he joined a game company, first producing music for the X68000 and PC-9801 for about a year and a half, then switching to freelancing. After becoming a freelance creator, he first participated in "DESIRE" and "XENON," followed by works like "EVE" and "YU-NO."
Division of labor during the D4 period
In the official Q&A for "PSYVARIAR THE MIX," Umemoto listed his work at D4 as recording, sound arrangement, planning, and sales.
EVE's sound research
According to Takami's recollection, Umemoto purchased materials and studied music directions for EVE while seeking a cool, hardcore atmosphere, and also invited Takami to try out the game in development and write music. Takami used Umemoto's repetitive patterns as a starting point to propose his own writing style; After receiving a response, the commission was further narrowed down to music that expresses wild energy.
Different arrangements of day and night themes
Takami recalled that when Ryu Umemoto talked about "EVE" and "YU-NO," he emphasized the different faces of the same theme during the day and at night. He believes that changing the arrangement can influence how much readers engage with the story, not just reuse the melody.
