"Spiritual Vision FILE23: The Seven Wonders of Honjo" is an ensemble horror suspense adventure produced by SQUARE ENIX. Set in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, in the late Showa era, it depicts the events of people who have obtained cursed powers and compete for the secret resurrection technique.

The legend of the main office

The story links the Seven Mysteries of Honjo to secret arts that bring the dead back to life. Originally a local legend, the ghost story becomes a reality the characters must face due to the appearance of cursed powers.

Compact production with an all-celestial background

Before making "FILE23," Takaya Ishiyama and Gen Kobayashi had worked on RPG prototypes focused on story. After changing the production system, they chose to control the budget with Ishiyama's familiar compact ADV. After deciding on the theme, he consulted literature and consulted Sumida Ward; Kobayashi suggested using an all-sky spherical background, with Ishiyama filming on site. The protagonist is not visible in the first-person screen, so companions are added, and the two of them converse to take on the content and story progression.

The back-and-forth between art and the script

Ishiyama first gave the character's age, gender, occupation, and impression. Kobayashi researched Showa and designed expressions, then adjusted his slightly pouting expression as the director requested. Harue's expression even affected the dialogue, and Ishiyama added a pause based on the picture. The character art style is closer to reality, while moderate distortion maintains a sense of closeness and uses brush-like outlines; The main visuals use Showa-era hand-drawn movie poster-style layouts and color tones to link the group of characters with horror.
