"Gray Phantom Trigger Volume 3" continues the story of Frontwing's SORD trainees, with Tonghua as the main character. An overseas joint training session turned into a mission to hunt down deserters, forcing her to confront both her current goals and her own past.

Overseas training camp

Reina and Maki stayed in Mihama to recover after being wounded in battle, while the other members went abroad to participate in summer joint activities with other schools. The original training camp was arranged for a manhunt mission, where Mihama members had to cooperate with Sylvie, Velvet, and others from St. Yale Foreign Language School to understand their tactics.

The past of tung blossoms

The development of the mission brings back Tonghua's memories of her parents and promises she has yet to fulfill to a friend. During the pursuit, how one understands the target's situation and decides where they must return are all connected to these personal experiences. The answers she needed to give went beyond simply completing a single training session.

Cross-school task relationships

The Handler Sengoku Lingya from St. Yale is responsible for the related command; he is also Sengoku Ichirin's younger brother. People from different schools each have their own stance on the task, forcing Tonghua to respond between orders, peers, and her own judgment. This work continues with Akio Watanabe responsible for the key artwork and Ryuta Fujisaki for the script, unfolding the characters' experiences in a visual novel format.

St. Yale team and disposal orders

Sylvia and Velvet are third-year partners at Saint Yale SORD; Ayame Sengoku is both their officer and Isrin's younger brother. The pursuit missions in the retreat allow you to deal with targets and erase traces when you can't catch them, forcing Tonghua to make decisions based on her personal perspective.

Tung Blossom's family training

Tonghua's father was an American soldier, and her mother was from Germany. From a young age, she learned self-defense and shooting from her father and his colleagues. After her mother passed away, she lived with her father for two more years at a civilian military company. Volume 3 returns to these family experiences and old promises to friends, giving the mission return and survival a more concrete meaning.

The 2017 Volume 3 product announcement lists Akio Watanabe as key animator and character designer, Mai Nanaka as SD key animator, and Ryuta Fujisaki as scriptwriter.
