Albert McDougall is allowed to interview at a facility called Desire, but encounters an amnesiac girl named Tina by the sea, which immediately leads to an attack and bombing. Another protagonist, Makoto Izumi, is the facility technology supervisor. He demands a halt to experiments due to the dangers of research, but Professor Stella refuses; The infiltrators once again made her suspicious.
Two sides of the same event
The game uses command-selective operation and a multi-site structure, allowing players to investigate from the perspectives of both outsiders and internal staff within the facility. Albert and Makoto are also lovers, but the information they have and their respective responsibilities differ, leading to misunderstandings about events and each other.
Remake scope
The 2017 version recolors and improves clarity based on the Saturn original artwork, with new CG drawn by Naoke Tajima. Route navigation prompts destinations, and the same command can be quickly re-selected multiple times. The event screen also incorporates modern performance effects. These changes mainly improve reading and investigation operations, with the dual protagonists remaining the core of the narrative.
Division of personnel at the institute
Stella was responsible for overall research, with Makoto as technical director; Cheryl and Kyle are researchers, Christie handles general affairs, and Riko is responsible for the professor's secretarial affairs. Hemei represented the consortium for an external inspection.
Medical and mechanical personnel
Dr. Gates and his adopted daughter Elena work at the medical center. Maintenance officer Sylvia has received pilot training. The person's profession and department determine the different information they can access during interviews.
Public relationships
Albert and Makoto are lovers, and Kyle's pursuit and their differences only add to the pressure on their relationship. Riko is both Makoto's close friend and Stella's secretary; Elena and Gates have both a job-assisted and adoptive father-daughter relationship.
DESIRE remaster / Full Opening Post-Talk: Facility Restoration and Reunion
After completing the full run, the dialogueless epilogue tells another outcome: Makoto regains her DESIRE and restarts the device's operation, Albert rewrites the result of his separation from Tina, and the two are ultimately reunited.
