Postcards from the past

Takahiro Fujieda, a university student in Tokyo, received a strange postcard: the handwriting seemed to be by his own hand, and the design bore the Expedition Club's logo, but he completely forgot having written it. The sender is Rina Kamo from Furusato Shrine. His childhood friend Shinsuke Sano encountered the same situation, and the two decided to return home, accompanied by university and part-time job partner Ayaka Sawachi.

Reunion at Shiragahama

Rina explained that these postcards were sent according to instructions from eight years ago. The attitude of the townspeople made the returning homecomers uneasy, and several companions shared a blank memory of that summer. Inside the Barracuda Café, Maria and Makoto Fukura were already waiting; The group photo in the time capsule left behind a member obscured by stains, unnoticed by anyone.

Companions and the past

Maria was once the captain of the adventure club, Joji Masuya and Nozomi are siblings, and Rina is a familiar older friend to the children. The owner, Yuichi Saeki, witnessed their middle school life. The narrative unfolds between the reunion of adult companions and Yuka and others at age thirteen, with identity and relationships gradually clarifying as memories return.

Memories and current actions

The game alternates between present-day dialogues and investigation choices with past animated clips. Memories are not just a simple background introduction: players need to find clues from the past and then act in the present. Different choices influence the story's direction, leading to an ordinary, bad ending, or a more complete conclusion.

Read and unlock

The system menu provides saving, reading, item viewing, and option settings, and supports skipping on reads. After reading the ending, the game saves the system to unlock the data; Some non-bad endings will unlock endings, animations, photo albums, and music appreciation. The Yataro hint that appears after clearing the game can help you find better ending conditions.

Sound and theme song

Character dialogue is fully voiced, ambient sounds use DiMAGIC VX technology, and the official method also introduces a method for capturing cave sounds using a simulated human head microphone. The theme song "Kimidori" was written and performed by Maaya Sakamoto, composed and arranged by Yoko Kanno; Maaya Sakamoto also voices Yuka.

Version

The original version is a single-player adventure game for PS2. The TAITO BEST budget edition was released on July 29, 2004. The theme song is also included in 'Nico Pachi' and is a different format from the in-game unlocked sound appreciation.
