The division of labor in cocua
At Cocua, mao is responsible for lyrics and vocals, while Sei Anse handles composition, arrangement, and piano. Participated in the 2010 PS2 game 'Natsusora no Monologue' and the theme of the same name as 'Natsusora'.
The mood, commissioning, and recording of specific songs
While recording the ending theme song 'Kakera' for the PSP 'Kaminaru Kimi to', mao discussed different forms of sadness with the staff. She didn't exaggerate her grief, but instead used a calm voice to express the state of wanting to cry but being unable to.
When producing the opening track for "FOReST," she proposed the idea of using "FOReST" as a title to express her gratitude to rino, and after receiving the melody, she wrote the lyrics until 4 a.m. After waking up and reviewing the poem, she kept the lyrics and ultimately changed the title to "I'll Be There for You."
The sequence for 'Shion' and 'Metro' was conceived from the very beginning of production. When recording the ending theme song "Metro" for PS3 "Meruru no Atelier," mao adopted a cuter singing style at Kazuki Yanagawa's request.
She first decided to end "ForreST" with "Beyond the Forest, Light no Saki," then asked Haruka Shimotsuki to compose the music, conveying images of forests, hope, wind, and greenery. After obtaining the melody, she writes the lyrics; Shimotsuki also accompanied the recording, with a temporary addition of interlude vocals, with arranger Toda subsequently joining in.
When singing the ending theme "Hana no Atosaki" for the 2012 anime "Hakuoki Reimeiroku," mao shifted her focus from the subjective emotions at the end of the animation to accompanying her behind the scenes. She avoids strong, lamenting expressions, hoping to leave room for listeners to understand the song.
The chorus leaves little room for breath. She was once too concerned about pitch accuracy, reconsidered the emotions in the lyrics, and successfully completed this section when singing again.
When producing the 2015 piano accompaniment album "Kimi ga Koisuru Monogatari," vocals and piano began recording together. Looking back on this experience, mao selected "Overflowing with Care" as part of the 15th anniversary selection for 2023.
When recording the theme song for the sound CD series "Tonari no Kimi ni," she aimed to express cuteness as much as possible, using rising syllables and emphasizing a playful tone at key points. The "Fault" from "Piofiore no Banbell" offers her a different approach: she uses the expressive space left by myu to finely tune her singing tone.
The instrumental opening of the debut album "toddle" connects the shell cover with the imagery of dreaming inside an egg, with the book and CD tray forming a story. She felt the album's concept was rather rigid, so she ended it with a soft, happy 'Koi no Kokoro,' hoping listeners would feel at ease.
