I am Setsuna's commission and piano production
Tomoki Miyoshi, reflecting on "I am Setsuna," explained that Hiroaki Yura introduced his music to a team searching for composers; The existing prototype chosen by the team later became the main theme of "Winter Journey's End."
When he first met director Atsushi Hashimoto, they decided to use the piano as the main instrument in "I am Setsuna." Although Miyoshi had submitted orchestral experiments, the team still believed that piano was more suitable for works conceived around sadness.
Miyoshi first wrote about twenty pieces that could be played by a single piano, submitted them to Randy Kerber to record in Los Angeles, and then composed and performed the rest on a computer. Matching the tone of a live person and a computer piano was challenging, so Daniel Brown assisted with sound and mastering.
The difference between orchestral arrangement and expansion
Miyoshi has brought 'STEINS;' The song he participated in in was described as an orchestral arrangement of the original song.
While working on Monaco: The Gentleman's Private Collection, he had the opportunity to expand on his original works and recompose them.
Rewriting and song selection for "Winter's End."
When rewriting the music for "I am Setsuna" for the 2016 adaptation of "Winter's End," Miyoshi retained the original impression, expanded the short loop into a complete instrumental, and added the ending. He wanted the album to have an easy-to-listen, flowing feel, so he chose melodious tracks and avoided battle tracks.
Piano recording of the additional track
For the recording of the bonus tracks on this album, Miyoshi temporarily switched to playing the piano himself. He explained that while previously playing on a computer, this time he chose live recording to match Hiroaki Yura's playing speed.
