Searching for image symbols in three-dimensional space
In a 2022 interview, Wasshu said he often experiments with arrangement methods in three-dimensional space to determine recognizable symbols. The 'Sacred Shrine Guardian Town' first features terrain and a central giant rock, and only then does a town and temple develop around it.
Give the fantasy scenery an internal reason
He incorporates unrealistic elements based on real buildings or landscapes, while also questioning how culture and energy support these structures. Issues such as the driving force of floating cities and residents' convenience will continue to guide specific spatial design.
The workflow from MODO to 2D polishing
After determining the symbols and supporting elements, he used MODO modeling, then switched to VUE to place objects, arrange layouts and shots, rendered them into 2D images, and finally polished them with Photoshop, transforming the directly rendered 3D feel into his own illustration style.
Day and night lighting in the same scene
"The Usual Walking Path" has two versions: day and night. He added stepped reflections and streetlight glow to the night scene, and also considered the air perception influenced by temperature, humidity, and the sun's position, ensuring that lighting and scene conditions coordinated.
