A closed school shrouded in fog

Bailuyuan High School is located in a mountainous area, surrounded by legends that entering thick fog at night causes it to disappear from the world. After a student was killed on a foggy night, the school and police linked the incident to the 'Domain Master,' but the students still harbored their own suspicions. The newcomer Zhang Boyan had to investigate the incident through conflicting information.

Investigators versus bystanders

The student council president uses limited resources to search for the Border Lord, and may also become a target of the attack. Some other students initially stayed out of it, while others changed their stance after the incident. Ran Xueyi works in the cafeteria due to her family's background, but her classmates don't understand her; Teacher Zhou Fangjin dares to face the Jingzhu, yet repeatedly discusses the case in class, making the campus even more uneasy.

Narrative Forms and Subsequent Versions

The work presents investigations in a confined space in the form of a visual novel driven by reading and divergence, with the characters' situations and judgments as part of the clues. The release page of "Fog Origins S" introduces the game through suspenseful puzzles and a snowstorm-style manor-style structure, listing about 350,000 words of text; The above text scale corresponds to the S version.

Bailu Abyss High School

Zhang Boyan transferred to Bailuyuan High School, shrouded in mountain mist, and the incident began on a closed campus. The different situations of Ran Xueyi, a cafeteria worker, student council janitor Zhao Shuyu, and teacher Zhou Fangjin, intertwined with the murder suspicion on campus.

The Lord of the Mist and the Investigation

Stories about the Lord of the Mist spread throughout the campus, and the legend made the case even more eerie. The work presents about 350,000 words of character behavior and investigation, with the publisher estimating it to be around eight hours.

Development and distribution

Produced by Sedition, published by SP-time, and entered the Steam release record on June 25, 2020.

The order of the 2011 original additional chapters

The first two female lead routes each yield different survey results. After both routes are completed, the Safe Journey opens, and the conversation between the Lord of the Snow Realm and the Lord of the Mist continues to explain the world background; The previously limited options in this story are now released, allowing the third playthrough to advance a real investigation. The Resting Heart Chapter further clarifies the truth of the incident.

Gui Haifeng's help with the investigation

In the 2011 original opening story, Zhang Boyan recounts that he became addicted to detective novels due to TV coverage of the Snow Fundamental Realm incident, and was later sent by his parents to Bailuyuan; This was just his initial understanding of transferring. In the third playthrough, Guihai Feng provides direction for thinking, helping him continue his investigation and forming a direct connection between the characters from both works.

The legacy from the S version of the Unharmed Arc

The S version of the Well-Harm arc revisits Ran Xueyi and her brother's childhood. After his parents died in a car accident, his uncle and other relatives, in order to seize the inheritance, sent the siblings to school under the pretext of mental health issues. Beyond her situation working in the cafeteria, this family story explains why she was kept here.

The secrets and killing motives of the S-version school

In the latter half of the S version, it is revealed that Bai Luyuan is a pilot for a new type of mental center, and it also involves organ trading. The Lord of the Mist Realm attempts to draw outside attention to the school through internal killings, exposing its closed situation; The experiences of specific individuals are intertwined with this action.

2011 original music and special soundtrack

The original 2011 music production credits were Xuan Yin, Qiu Shi, and Xiao Pu; The theme song was written, composed, and arranged by Akiishi, and performed by Kanako Wakaba. Both the original first press limited edition and the deluxe edition come with a bonus OST CD.
