Overview
In 'Dead Bit,' he is credited as a bizarre design.
Commercial freelance work during university
During his university years, Akifumi Yamamoto took on painting commissions for works such as 'Hundred Sword' and 'Duel Masters,' which marked his entry into the field of illustration. In an interview published in March 2026, Yamamoto reflected on this career beginning.
Design is formed from contours and symbolic elements
When designing characters or monsters, Yamamoto first focused on the general outline and facial modeling, hoping that from a distance, he could distinguish attributes such as weight and strength. When shifting from textual conception to visuals, Yamamoto retained common symbolic elements of the subject, then formed personality through contrast, exaggeration, and other features.
Draft attributes and materials before clearing
During the draft stage, Yamamoto considered how to convey attributes such as enemies, minions, or fear of fire. Before finishing the draft, Yamamoto gathered materials and believed that when painting was difficult, it was often due to insufficient understanding of the subject's structure, and that supplementing structural knowledge would speed up production.
Huazi in his first horror work
When creating the bizarre character for 'Death Bites,' Yamamoto first drew Hanako from the toilet. This was also Yamamoto's first time participating in a horror work; As the character develops feelings during production, people repeatedly ask themselves whether the characters they draw still evoke a sense of horror.
