The meeting of the three

Transfer student Gu Wei comes from a poor family. He connects with a high school girl who wants to become a journalist and a college girl running a social media platform while investigating a milk tea shop where you have to wait in line for eight hours. A daily interview gradually reveals the abnormalities hidden in urban life.

Cognition and strangeness

The story focuses on how people spread, accept, or change their understanding of events after they believe in something. Rumors and strangeness are not mere background; together with the real-life dilemmas faced by the characters, they influence investigations, turning seemingly ordinary information into clues for reinterpreting events.

Narrative and romance

The story continues from autumn into winter, advancing character relationships through writing, dialogue, and choices. Investigation and romantic clues intertwine, and different judgments influence subsequent developments and endings.

Production and dubbing

The work is produced and published by Never Knows Best, providing Chinese character voice acting. The narrative uses text, voice acting, background art, and character portraits to present urban investigations together.

Neighbors and milk tea shop investigation

In Chapter Two, the poor male lead comes home from work and talks with neighbors. A bowl of hot dry noodles brings them close, and only then does he realize the other party is Chen Mo. Chen Mo is a freshman at East China Normal University and a special contributor to Xuanniao Studio. The third chapter centers on the collapse of an elderly man at the entrance of the pyramid milk tea, where the investigations of the male lead, Gu Zhenzhen, and Chen Mo intersect.

The balcony, memories, and two people

The male lead and Chen Mo often have late-night talks on their apartment balcony, and watching Mercury becomes a shared memory for both of them, which later helps Chen Mo break free from the influence of the Western film box. Gu Zhenzhen and Chen Mo are separated from the same person; their anchors are intertwined, and the crisis demands finding new ways beyond just saving one of them.

The academy's action in retrospect

The second half of the rewind actually goes back to 2020. The male lead is brought into Zhangyu Academy, where he receives help from Gu Wei when his actions are restricted, using the broadcasting room and other conditions to confront Guest. The similar names, retroactive years, and perspectives of Gu Wei and Gu Wei all contribute to misleading. The White Warrior Project uses altered observations as a method, attempting to save Gu Zhenzhen and Chen Mo simultaneously, and alter the fate of Gu Wei's pseudo-swamp people.

Chapters and song titles

The second chapter, "Electric Shock," references Kenshi Yonezu's "Electric Shock," while the seventh chapter, "Mercury Chronicles," references Guo Ding's song of the same name. The two chapters revolve around nighttime encounters and balcony night talks, with the direct connection between these songs and works in the chapter titles.

Chapter 18 and the two-round character route

The choice at the end of Chapter 18, 'Golden Reed Flower,' determines the branches of Gu Zhenzhen, Chen Mo, and Su Banxia. After Zhenzhen's 'Black Cat' and Chen Moxian's 'The Little Girl Who Sells the Truth,' the story continues to Chapter 26, returning to the end of Chapter 18; Both lines can be completed in any order, and the corresponding options for the selected character are disabled. After passing through both routes, the flow moves into chapters twenty-seven to thirty-three, "The Half Son Who Defeats Heaven."

The milk tea shop mistakenly identifies the principal

Later notes reveal that investigators initially treated Guest as the pyramid milk tea manager, but in reality, Guest controlled the manager with strange means, while he himself served as the principal of Zhangyu College. In the old timeline, Bai Yong was bound to the academy, and Chen Mo was unable to speak after the attack; These incidents linked the milk tea investigation, correctional institutions, and subsequent rescue efforts into a single cause.

The two separated and wore vocal collars

Chapter 33 explains that the neurological and mental damage caused by the attack made Chen Mo unable to speak. The true regret medicine "A River" splits a person's future in two; she entrusts the one that can speak to Gu Zhenzhen and relies on the "cat language translator" on her neck. The two anchors are entangled with each other; if they still exist two years later, they will all turn to bubbles, so the rescue must break through and leave only one of them.

The prologue's assassination and the box of foreign films

The prologue, 'Assassinating the Reporter Corps Leader,' is titled from the perspective of 'target,' with Bai Yong as the actual character. He failed to assassinate Guest, and the box of foreign films fell into Guest's hands, prompting the story to enter the city for investigation.

Red Pen's involvement in the investigation

Guest once controlled the pyramid milk tea manager with a red pen, and the shop closed once in early 2021 during the old timeline. When Gu Zhenzhen argued with Chen Mo, he provided the two with a camera and a red pen, bringing the strange item into their choices.

Resurrection materials for Chapter 33

"Far Away" shows that Zhong Qibei executed the White Figurine Warrior Project to resurrect the truly happy prince Gu Wei. The action involves the Eye of the Past, the Eye of the Future, the Red Pen, the gold leaf provided by the Western Film Box, and the lead heart of the white figurine.
