Data and relationships
Composed background music and theme songs for "New Sakura Wars."
Contemporary ballads and lyrics collaborate
Tanaka and Hiroi started from the melody of Jidaigayo and the concept of the musical, forming the direction of the "Sakura Wars" series. Tanaka asked Hiroi to write lyrics, provide detailed guidance and revisions, and collaborated via fax.
Vocal lines and different writing styles
Each member of the Flower Troupe has a distinctive voice; Tanaka often sings in unison and has also written two-part pieces for Sakura and Maria. He avoided repetitive writing and would buy records to learn when requested by Samba.
Orchestral recording preparation for "New Sakura Wars."
Tanaka first used a synthesizer to complete a near-finished demo, and after each item was confirmed by the team, he recorded the orchestral music.
How to write the new chapter's theme and the negative theme
"Proclamation!" Teikoku Kekidan <New Chapter >' composed music and lyrics first, with new trumpet and Sakura's high-pitched follow-up sung by the trumpet; "Mad Bloom in the Imperial Capital" rewrote the old melody and partially inverted it, and invited Nishiki to create different sounds through orchestral arrangements.
Stage singing preparation and compositional memories
Kohei Tanaka recalled that when the 2020 performance of "Shin Sakura Taisen the Stage" was postponed by about eight months, he communicated with the actors about the world of the work, arranged for them to practice their voices, and repeatedly read the script.
When writing a new song for the 2021 song "Two Flames," he wrote musical-style songs that approached their singing limits based on the actors' abilities after their previous performances.
In 2021, he reviewed 'Proclamation!' When composing the composition for Teikoku Kagekidan <New Chapter >', it is estimated that due to the need for various considerations, it took about a week to compose.
Tanaka also visits dubbing and rehearsal sites to interact with people. He recalled that during the "Zettou Muteki Raijin-O" period, he recorded voice acting every week to keep the work connected to the live set.
Specific guidance for two new Sakura Wars character songs
When composing 'Ruriruran: Ginza Roman,' Kohei Tanaka had the prelude to the first section bright and jumping, and the interlude to the second section turning into a dangerous spy mission. The two melodies are identical, with a major and minor key forming a contrast between day and night.
Before recording 'Ruriruran Ginza Roman,' he first explained the singing technique to Mayu Yoshioka and asked her to practice. After several test singing, the production team decided to widen the gap between the two singing styles and enhance the exaggeration, ultimately recording a style that expresses the character's dual sides.
Faced with the mature style of 'Kaeru Jojo' that Ayaka Fukuhara was unfamiliar with, Tanaka did not simply teach her methods or techniques, but instead waited for her to form expression through recording; After repeated singing, I finally got the version he mentioned in this review.
Composition selection for the ending theme of the anime
When composing the ending theme 'Sakura Dreaming Scene' for the 2020 anime 'Shin Sakura Taisen the Animation,' Kohei Tanaka discussed with Avex and chose to get closer to 'Geki!' Teikoku Kagekidan's direction, without following the peaceful path of the old anime's ending theme 'Yumemite Iyou'.
He believed these singers had charm in their high notes, so he emphasized the performance of high notes in his compositions. When talking about a phrase in the sample tape, he also explained that it had been decided that Saori Hayami and Nana Mizuki would perform it, and that the expression would be considered according to the designated singers.
