Sayo's stepmother once opposed her playing the piano and is a key figure in the mother-daughter relationship in Etude.
Mutual understanding
Sayo talks with her and gets into a conflict, but gradually comes to understand her. The main storyline was then written about Sayo going to school to perform and deciding to play for someone else.
