Death and resurrection and wind rot syndrome

In the world of works, re-activity after death is a phenomenon already well known. Resurrected individuals may lose their memory and cognitive abilities, and their physical condition continues to deteriorate. People's perceptions of them have changed: from objects related to faith to those who are excluded and avoided.

"Wind rot syndrome" is the name of a disease in the story, set in a fictional setting. The story uses this premise to depict how medicine, family, and society treat people in special circumstances, rather than a true Taisho medical history.

Two protagonists

Chisho Masamitsu is a young doctor involved in Shuhei Katori's investigation of Fengrot disease. He faced the question of how medical staff understand and study this phenomenon, and the investigation exposed him to the living environment of patients.

Takeo Tenma is a student, and his daily life is originally far removed from the doctor's investigative work. When Fenglan syndrome connects with those around us, the problem shifts from an abstract social phenomenon to a situation that must be faced personally. These two perspectives allow readers to see the difference between professional observation and personal relationships.

Investigation and the lives of the people

Jia Niao Shuhei's research not only focuses on symptoms but also on the living conditions of patients and their families. The system, old habits, and everyday judgments in the work influence each other; characters cannot solve all problems by simply knowing the name of a disease.

The narrative focuses on actions and relationships in different situations. Medical perspectives do not naturally provide all answers, and students' personal experiences are insufficient to generalize all patients; The dual perspective allows these limitations to enter the story simultaneously.

Production and distribution

The project was planned and scripted by Renya Setoguchi, with character design by Zennosuke and music by MANYO. The official website also lists Kenzo Nagaoka as responsible for UI design, BA-KU as responsible for programming, and as credited for ANIPLEX.EXE's production.

The PC version was released on November 17, 2023, with official support available in Japanese, English, and Chinese Simplified. The Chinese community sometimes directly uses katakana transcription or the English name Hira Hira Hihiru; this page retains the existing title to maintain website and citation stability.

Rebirth and wind rot syndrome

Since ancient times, the phenomenon of the dead coming back to life has existed in this world. The resurrected person's cognition, memory, and communication abilities decline, and their metabolism gradually becomes abnormal. People first worshipped it, then began to reject it, and finally incorporated the phenomenon into medicine, calling it Fenglan syndrome.

Doctor's investigation

Shuhei Katori was a professor at the Imperial University and also the director of the Tokyo Prefectural Kagocho Hospital. To urge the government to improve the backward patient system, he sent assistants nationwide to collect actual information. Former student Chigusa Masamitsu works at the hospital, comes from a noble family, and is passionate about treatment, participating in this investigation.

Student boarding life

Takeo Tenma came from the north to high school, but due to some reason, he delayed moving into the dormitory and temporarily stayed at the house of Kyojo. Novelist Keijiro and Takeo's father are old friends, and his daughter Akiko is talented but limited by the requirements for female admission; Tatsuko, who has long served at home, has become almost like family. Takeo later connected with patients through this period of life.

Friends and family and records

Soichi Nomura is Chishiro's classmate and close friend. After falling ill, he has no steady work and occasionally writes for political magazines. Her younger sister, Asa Nomura, draws under the name Nomura Yoru, hiding her skin condition on normal days. Photographer Kikuei Tsuji participates in the doctor's investigation as a recorder, accompanying Chisaka.

Planning and production

Renya Setoguchi was responsible for planning and scriptwriting, Zennosuke designed characters, MANYO composed the music, Kenzo Nagaoka designed the interface, and BA-KU developed the program. The roles are played by Keisuke Kawamoto, Masaaki Mizaka, and Kenpei Yamamoto, with each of the ten public characters each providing their own voice acting.

Songs and soundtracks

The Song of the Stars is performed by KOCHO, with lyrics by Renya Setoguchi, and music and arrangement by MANYO. On March 6, 2024, a single CD soundtrack SVWC70645 was released, with a total of 21 tracks, and the theme song is the final track; Zennosuke illustrated the cover, and MANYO provided track commentary.

PC release

The game was released on November 17, 2023, on Steam, DMM GAMES, and DLsite, supporting Japanese, English, and Chinese Simplified, and is available for 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 systems. Fenglan Disease and related medical institutions are part of the work's setting.

Chisho's biological mother reunites with the family

Zhengguang's biological mother suffers from wind rot, and he faces the choice of whether to take her away from her original home. In the branch where family members reunite, the birth mother briefly reunites with Masamitsu, his father, and family, and the family also arranges seats for her; She passed away several weeks later. Masamitsu himself later fell ill himself, went from doctor to patient, and then resumed his medical practice as he continued living.

Soichi's scars and Asa's future

The wound on Soichi's face was caused by his own nails. He wanted to understand the pain of his sister Chao losing her original appearance due to illness, and hoped she would not give up on life. Asa and Masamitsu consider studying abroad as they continue their lives, while Masamitsu continues working as a doctor.

Akiko's illness and Aomori's fate

Akiko wishes to study abroad, and Takeo agrees to work hard together; She then dies and is resurrected as a Fenglan syndrome patient, and her original wish for further education shifts to the question of how to live together. From Takeo's perspective, the dispute between Kinugawa and patient Miyo in care also forces him to choose whether to end the patient's life. In the branch that keeps Miyo, Katori introduces the hospital for help. In the ending where she continues living with Akiko, Akiko regains clarity, and Takeo takes her to Aomori.

Instrumental soundtrack production by track

The first 20 tracks of the original soundtrack were composed and arranged by MANYO, including "Going to Ginza Street," "In the Closed Ward," "Patients in the Wind Rotting Ward," and the final instrumental piece "Spring in the Northern Country." The vocal track 21, 'Hoshitachi no Uta,' was also composed and arranged by MANYO, with lyrics by Renya Setoguchi.
