When making "Dust Must Settle," Somi first wrote the story before considering how to present it as a game.
Translator's trial and review
When Somi handed the game version of "Dust Must Settle" to the translator, she asked to try it out before starting the translation, and about two days later received feedback that moved her. The Japanese version first translates the text, then has another person familiar with the game and Japanese culture review it. Somi asked the translator more questions, and character tone, name pronunciation, metaphors, and symbolism were all adjusted through continuous Q&A.
Liaison with literary translators
Starting with THE WAKE, Somi turned to the field of literary translation to seek English translators, emailing those who were starting to stand out through literary translation awards and other achievements. After repeatedly being rejected for game commissions, he persuaded a translator to collaborate, and later continued to be responsible for "Dust Must Settle."
