The borrowed brain
After AI replaced a large number of jobs, an industry that connects human brains to networks and provides computing resources has emerged. People lacking choices maintain their lives in this way, and the conveniences brought by technological development are thus closely linked to their working conditions. The protagonist Dai Shijie and the mysterious consciousness residing within him gradually approach the core of the event in this social environment.
Dialogue and environmental cues
Player answers affect relationships with other characters, and subtle information in the scene can open up new dialogue options. Exploration is not just about finding the next location: paying attention to objects, text, and surrounding details can change how the protagonist understands situations and responds to others. Different choices cause personal relationships and events to influence each other.
Urban audiovisual performance
The creators organized scenes with a spatial atmosphere infused with Asian urban life, combining 2D hand-drawn characters with 3D environments. Animation and camera changes are used for character actions and plot management. Apartments, workplaces, and city corners bring grand technical issues into visible everyday environments, allowing readers to gradually see the pressures of social structures through everyday life.
Two consciousnesses within the shared body
Players enter Dai Shijie's life, but Dai Shijie's own consciousness still exists within this body. The controller and the original body coexist, giving work, interaction, and hidden conspiracies two different positions. Exploring the environment uncovers clues that aren't directly spoken through dialogue, unlocking new dialogue options.
Urban Industry and Voice
Highly automated cities have emerged in industries that use the human brain for computing, turning people's mental power into a resource that can be mobilized. The soundtrack includes 35 tracks composed, performed, produced, and mixed by Kevin "Kounine" Colombin; The ending theme of Sunset Rollercoaster, 10-Year-Taipei (Matured '17), is credited separately and is not included in this soundtrack.
Original soundtrack included
The 35-track soundtrack, released on August 12, 2024, was composed, performed, produced, and mixed by Kevin "Kounine" Colombin; The ending theme '10-Year-Taipei (Matured '17) from Sunset Rollercoaster is not included.
Two silent departments
Dai Shijie lives in the north bay and is preparing to work at the Silent Factory. The screening team is responsible for assessing the applicants' physical and mental health, while the operations team is responsible for integrating the selected candidates into the human brain processing process. The two groups have long been at odds due to working distance and different positions; Players can understand the needs of both sides and facilitate communication, enabling colleagues who previously misunderstood each other to work together.
Cheng Fang faces danger and undergoes a mission with the Owl team
Cheng Fang uncovers the secret of Wanxiang and, bringing evidence, confronts the higher-ups, dragging herself into danger. Dai Shijie is soon approached by the Owl team, and while preparing for a job interview, he gathers intelligence and tries to rescue his lover. The Owl Army was ruled by people known as Grandmothers, with Situ Ning acting within them; Cheng Fang's friend Xu Yuan also offers limited help to the protagonist's group.
Master and disciple, lovers, and a shared body
Situ Ning is Zhang Longsheng's mentor and also the lover of 23. During the noodle shop conversation on the fourth day, players can respond to Zhang Longsheng's unease, influencing how he later understands Situ Ning and talks with 23. Every night, the player's consciousness controlling the body would even communicate with Dai Shijie himself. If the harsh words continue, Dai Shijie will regain body control in the final game and join the Owl team, but will not ally with Situ Ning.
The four destinations of the Sleeping God Factory
The endgame offers four types of actions: ally with Situ Ning and join the Owl team; He joined the Owl Squad but did not form an alliance, and under the organization's surveillance, protected Dai Shijie and Cheng Fang's lives; He joined the Orchid Party, went into hiding, and stopped contacting Cheng Fang; Ignite the factory. In the latter half of the quiet rooftop, Dai Shijie and Zhang Longsheng face the Wanxiang CEO Yan Shenghe, who is trying to leave. Different destinations alter personal relationships and the actions the protagonist can take afterward.
Scope of subsequent updates
The August 2024 update added a proposal transition, and the December update added synchronization rate explanations in the consciousness menu, explaining the differences between player and Dai Shijie's thinking. The 2025 first anniversary announcement also announced the addition of extended endings. The above additions are post-release updates and are recorded separately from the scope of the original edition.
Recording of the ending song for the 2018 album version
The official Sunset Speed release page lists "10-Year-Taipei (Matured '17)" as part of "CASSA NOVA," released on March 14, 2018. This version features Zeng Guohong providing lead vocals, electric guitar, 12-string guitar, synthesizer, piano, and percussion.
